Temperature rises and the wow closes

Hi, this is a request from a friend who’s having issues with her PC.
According to what she told me, her PC has always been fine since Shadowlands, Dragonflight, and the beginning of War Within.
But with this latest patch, she’s been having issues, from her PC spiking, just starting WoW, and causing the application itself to shut down.
Also, as an added detail, what happens sometimes is that after it’s “starting up” for a few minutes, her PC’s temperature starts to spike and drop, and then WoW closes.

Is there any help you can provide?

She plays World of Warcraft on Windows 10.
Graphics: GTX 1660 Super
Processor: Ryzen 5 - 5500
RAM: 32GB

Venting is ok? CPU paste? Heat sink clear? Probably could try turning down a few settings and try.

Everything you mentioned, she said she did it recently less than 1 week ago to try to fix the problem.
And he’s playing WoW at the minimum level to try, but it doesn’t work either.

What kind of cooling does she have on it. And if it’s an AIO water cooler how old is it

Stress-test the computer. Download a benchmark program. Let it run for a significant period of time. If the temperature rises to an alarming level and the computer starts acting weird, then you’ll know WoW is not the problem.

thermal paste and it’s been less than 6 months

He already put that to the test, and he had no problems or anything worth mentioning about the test.
only notices problems with Wow (after the update)

He has a all in one cooler ? what size is it. Wow drives the CPU harder then most Benchmark programs. would check all the fans on the water cooler along with the case fans

You can also check all his fan curve settings. Make sure something didn’t set it to a level too low. Force it to 100% and see if there is a change.

Even if the update put it over the top, updates don’t just cook systems unless the system is to blame (inadequate cooling).

Well, she just tried using 16GB RAM.
She used one of them and opened Wow and the PC shut down.
But she tried the second RAM and the PC is working fine so far.
