I want to hear them. What’s your worst dungeon or raid story?
First or second week of cata and I was still playing resto druid. Group after group I would get people that
- Wouldn’t let me drink
- Would stand in one shot abilities and than rage that I didn’t heal them through said one shots… It got to the point people were kicking healers out of heroics because they needed to “Learn to play a healer.”
By week three or four I had had enough and haven’t healed since.
Last night I started trying to get healing gear so I can raid heal but part of me is still a bit worried…
Moo!
Had a DK tank keep their Runic Power capped and never use Death Strike the other day.
Icing on the cake of missed kicks and defensives getting dusty.
Too many to list or sort through at the top of my head.
Probably easier to pick a raid or dungeon from Cata forward and I probably have at least one story for it.
So mine is back when Firelands was big. I was the main druid healer for my raid crew at the time, and I was in the middle of a Vortex pinnacle. Popped into Ventrillo (Yes I know. It was a thing back in the day) and got asked if I wanted to join in on a fresh run for FL. Obviously I was all for it, just told them “Hey give me just 5-10 mins to finish up this dungeon”, to which they agreed. I get out and get immediately told “Oh we already found a different healer.” Instead of getting upset with them, I went and pugged through heroic FL on said druid and told them when raid night came up, "Oh. Sorry. Already cleared it. Guess you’ll have to find another healer.’
Hmm…horror stories huh? Well the more recent one happened while I was trying to get the High Priest title for my shadow priest, I had to wait on a mission board job to finish so I hit a dungeon to finish a tailoring job. It was me, three people from the same guild and server, and a guy still clearly learning to play a rogue. Everything seemed fine at first…calm before the storm even till we killed a boss. Then the lock among the trio starts linking damage charts and making jabs at the rogue, the tank and healer jumped in on it too. I’m sitting there like “Oh dang…what’s going on here” but I knew if I spoke up they’d attack me too. They start tearing into this rogue I mean insanely getting hostile and just tearing him apart that it was like the guy was a fresh piece of meat in a pool of piranha. They kept dissing his dmg then eventually threw him out and even after he was gone they bad mouthed him and such. I was a tad spooked as it was a low level dungeon but they acted as if it was a +20 key… we eventually finished the run and I reported the trio but…oh my god people are terrifying some days. The level of salt and toxicity was insane
I was a warlock in Firelands as Cataclysm was the expansion where I started raiding in serious-mode as I got my feet wet raiding in the Ruby Sanctum patch of Wrath.
Turns out, I was good at it and got into a guild. I was the Chosen One™ to be the first to receive Dragonwrath based upon performance and reliability of having never missed a raid night.
The horror story starts kicking in when we would have people trying out, still remember a mage that shown up one day wanting to join our raid team and said, “The condition for me to join is that I want the legendary staff first!” Note, this is back when most players who got legendaries would often be poached by bigger guilds to consolidate teams of people with more legendaries to push further.
Not nearly as much of a horror story but we did laugh them out of the guild.
Lmfao my crew had one of those too. Like the guy was fresh 85, we got him geared enough to do the run with us, and he immediately demanded that he get the staff first. We had a priest at the time who was nearly done with it and I was the next in line for it. We laughed far harder than we likely should have.
I did a 20 DoS back in the day and jumped off the starting stairs, missed the landing and fell off the side and died right at the start
Uhhhh this patch it was storming and as tank on last boss in EB i ran Into a tornado that yeeted back into the boss frontal
Back in bfa i was just slummin a 9 UR on this guy as prot. Heals left before first boss but i was max gear so said f it we still doing this. Got to last boss everyone died but me, solo’d it and still timed the key. Was only a 9 but was hilarious.
Tbh i dont remember many of the runs which is probably for the best
Trying to do a +18 seat of the triumriviate on the first week.
You only need to watch MDI with that dungeon to understand. The 2nd team had 89 deaths when they finished the dungeon.
We had to go out respect to single target to finish the key. I think it took near 3 hours.
I was tanking Hellfire Ramparts on my brand new belf paladin. We get to one of the rooms where there’s a pack of mobs on the right and the hallway down to the left. Every group I’ve been in has always skipped those mobs so I pull the mobs in the hallway but a troll priests pulls the group to the right.
I tried my best to hold every thing (this is back when I cared and was a pretty good tank) but there were too many. This was the days before we were all invincible. We die and I start the long run back. As I’m running, one of the dps just lays into me. Insults me, my mom, my sexual orientation (no words were spoken up until this point) and I got the message: he was really pissed and blamed me for it. I told him I didn’t pull the extras, the priest did, but he wouldn’t listen. So I’m the first one back because I wasn’t responding to him except to put the blame where it belongs and he sees I’m there so he demands a rez. I just said “lol no” then next thing I know I’m in Org.
I don’t care, they did me a favor, but it sure was funny when the very next group I get into had one of the dps and they told me the group fell apart because they were tired of waiting for a tank
Haven’t had anything truly horrible recently, closest I can think of is a Throne run where the tank simply could not hold aggro. In the middle of every single pull a mob would suddenly turn to either me or the fury warrior and slap us back to the Shadowlands before going back to the tank. How a tank can have aggro issues in Retail I have NO idea …
The Stonecore. Ozruk. So many people, tank included, would not move out of the Ring of Death. Playing a H Priest at the time, and the amount of Casters and Melee that simply did not understand that you had to reflect a DoT back on yourself or get a Bleed effect from the boss to break the CC. Many groups fell apart to this boss and I’m sure has caused more group fall aparts than any Raid boss ever has. Even when TW is in, I still see people ZUG ZUG this guy and fall flat on their faces. Ozruk the Group Ender strikes again.
Way back when, there was a bug that companion pets could cause aggro. We took a shortcut to avoid a long ramp(I honestly don’t remember what dungeon, and what boss it was lol) and someone’s pet came running up to us happy to see his owner, with all the mobs chasing him.
The best part of that scenario was the innocent Hunter that remembered to dismiss their pet always got the finger pointed at them as the mage, warlock and/or DK stood back snickering.
I was a filler for a group of kids who were all from the same high school. About halfway through a RFK run, their language toward each other started to get very explicit and R-rated. I told them that, being an adult, I’d have to leave if it was going to continue. I hoped they would tone it down but instead the said they understood why I had to leave and were quite nice about it.
To this day I don’t think I’ve ever finished that dungeon.
An excellent description of a typical normal De Other Side run nowadays.
recent one.
darkheart. im the tank.
first pull to the bear. group does a ton of damage and we nuke everything down with lust.
shaman healer. afflicated not dispeled. he is the only one in the group who can dispel. that should have been my first clue.
i have the afflicted debuff. I am waiting for it to fall off. because the next pull is decent sized and I need my fury generation at full speed.
one of the dps, one of the two hunters, says “dude. pull”
“not while I have afflicted” i respond.
“it’s only a 14”, he says.
of course, that guy pulled not only the next two mobs (both of which pretty much free-casted despair), but the bear and just about everything in the next “room”.
the group pretty much dies in rotation, except me. I lived through it.
I climb up the root and down into the next area looking to just pull the pack on the right.
the hunters pull all of the stuff behind that. the pats end up in the pull and we have the same rotation of deaths. i lived lol
fewer than half of the afflicted get dispelled.
by the time we get to the pair of bears before the first boss, I am done with this horror show and I leave.
im sure they think I am a horrible tank and are telling their horror story about that VDH who sucked…i’d bet money on it.
Hmm…
I once got hacked while doing Steam Vaults. I was standing there with my group and suddenly I was disconnected. We were in Teamspeak? Ventrillo? when it happened.
So I got a play by play update of my character logging back into the instance and then teleporting out of the instance in front of my friends. That stunk.
I also, one time, went AFK to get a drink and accidently hit my auto run button when I put my headset down. My toon took off and ran off a cliff into the lava below. - More a humorous experience at my expense that I am reminded of fairly often.
