Tell me: Why dont you like BfA/ What are your complaints about it? : What do you like about BfA? What could be improved?

Hello my fellow nerdlings! I’ve been browsing the interwebs and ive been noticing that many people are not 100% pleased with this expansion. Now of course, not everything will please everyone, but I want to know your opinion! Please share!

My issue is time gating. Wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t a subscription model but the way I see it:

-Pay per month
-Content gated by time

So essentially, the delays you experience are a loss to you because they’re stretching out the subscription.

the faction story is terrible, I basically have to choose being a mindless genocidal minion to Lich Queen Sylvanas or a mindless traitorous minion to a senile orc working with the Alliance.

Many classes feel incomplete still, and the scaling is very hard on some during BFA leveling.

Blizzard is taking their sweet time on releasing the allied races advertised before the expansion’s release, and still refusing to give us the final pathfinder for flying.

Bounds of content is locked behing rep grind, raid contwent or just plain timegated.

Blizzard is extremely vague on many questions and concerns voiced by the playerbase, and impliment many unwanted and unasked for changes (such as the guild UI change)

So are we allowed to say good things or is this just a bash BfA thread?

Edit: Thank you OP for changing the title to reflect a more balanced discussion.

Im not a fan of the time gating either. It is what is is i guess. I sorta wish that we could have access to the raid immediately and we would have to do the entire war campaign to unlock it. I’d rather have that cause honestly, were still more than a month away and itd only take a little bit to finish the campaign. This is a critique thread, so youre more than welcome to post positive things about it. I mean Im liking BfA, but it of course has its ups and downs

Yeah, that would have been nice. I didn’t like that I got to the 4th portion and it said, “Wait for the Raid to come out!”. That was a buzzkill.

I imagine you could. I have things I don’t like about the xpac but I don’t hate all of it.

Forgot to add this. Class balance and ilvl scaling just feel gross when you’re lvling up. Been lvling my enhance shaman and I chose the zones I felt were more difficult up front so that I could do the easier one last when my power wanes.

I don’t mind lvl scaling but ilvl scaling doesn’t belong in the game. That’s just my stance on it.

THE BAD

  • Classes are not fun
  • Dungeons are just giant trash packs
  • Island Expeditions are bad
  • War Fronts could have been amazing but instead, it’s an afk-fest
  • Artifact Power is not a fun grind
  • Forced reputations around every corner. I’m not new to rep grinding, I have over 80 exalted reps. It’s just dumb the way they force them on us this expansion
  • Two of the key Allied races that were used as a selling point of the expansion still aren’t available
  • So many bugs, nearly everything that was released is littered with bugs
  • Scaling is dumb
  • The removal of PvP servers is dumb
  • My empty friends list
  • No tier sets makes me not want to raid. Even if they HAVE to remove tier sets, they could have at least pretended to not be lazy and give each class their own cosmetic raid set.

THE GOOD

  • Thanks to BfA I have gotten a lot more done irl.

  • azerite, remove it Or make it far, far better. Then gating the changes until the 22nd of January didn’t make me happy.

  • class balance and fun. Both suck plain and simple. 8.1 promised some changes. Brought nothing. Fire the current class team or let them play an MoP build of the game. Minus Inquisition…that was such aboring skill but I digress.

  • story, In between the last jedi and sonic OC fanfiction. It’s bad I hope a curve ball comes soon because sylvantas being “rawr im evil” and what looks like another revolution on the horde side is played out.

  • we need a currency system. There is little point to run dungeons right now. The azerite currency could work. But since three rework is gated till the 22nd i won’t find out.

Some issues with me.

Reading must be hard for you… It says what dont you like, and what do you like about bfa… Come on man!!!

That’s not what it said an hour ago. I mean seriously? I would have to be a pretty bad reader not to see that.

Classes gutted and a lot of previously baseline stuff were shoved into the talent tree or war mode talents … Can’t use those in dungeons.

WQs offering little rep compared to old dailies, and lots locked behind rep grinds.

Class felt garbage 2 button spam with boring gameplay.
Strongest trinket and talent mostly passive to support their intended audience.
99% of the content can be played by your cat.

I think some of the technical improvements that were made moving from Legion to BFA objectively made the software function better.

As a game… I don’t really have anything positive to say about BFA.
Things are not great.

  • Many classes/specs aren’t fun to play. Functionally.

  • Many classes/specs lost parts of them going from Legion to BFA. Talents, abilities, aspects of their toolkit.

  • AP in BFA is pointless as a post max level progression system. It fails to provide players with progression. It’s a grind without the promise of meaningful reward.

  • Azerite traits are just MoP talents lite. The system is beyond salvaging. The traits, it’s underlying progression, and faults are too severe. The game would benefit from it’s removal. Unquestionably.

  • The HoA is boring, uninteractive, and inanimate. Why does this even exist?

  • BFA directly extended a lot of the Legion systems. M+, WQ, Emissary, Brawl. (Carrying over systems is not a bad thing in and of itself) BFA barely innovated or introduced anything new. It feels uncomfortably just like Legion: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. What they did introduce in BFA was unfortunately boring and unattractive.

  • Islands and Warfronts. Islands before 8.1 felt like a giant trash farm. After 8.1 less trash… but everything has butt loads of HP now. So you spend excessive time target dummying the same mob. Warfronts, are just pointless. I can AFK them and still get fully rewarded. That is silly. Please stop designing content that defeats itself. That is not fun or engaging. It does not make me want to play.

  • Broader issue. Scaling is out of control. Scaling enemies. Scaling rewards. Scaling systems being so prevalent create long term issues. Rewards get stale. Go run a M AD get a ilvl340 Rezan’s Gleaming Eye > go run a +10 AD get a ilvl370 Rezan’s Gleaming Eye> after next raid launch go run a +10 AD get a ilvl400 Rezan’s Gleaming Eye> after next next raid release go run +10 AD get a ilvl??? Rezan’s Gleaming Eye. This is the state of WoW and the use of scaling rewards to eliminate the need for the devs to create collections of new rewards periodically over an expansions life. Using old rewards and just bumping their power (Performance wise) works but there isn’t lasting excitement in chasing the same reward that is just constantly getting bumped over and over, patch after patch for the expansion’s foreseeable future.

Separate from the above, but also important to me.
    I hate forced overworld scaling
Forced scaling by level and scaling by ilvl. Should not be a thing. Scaling by level ruins the level up experience for me. I wish I could turn it off.
Scaling by ilvl makes the end game experience of gaining gear feel more like your running on a treadmill than ever before. I run faster and faster but don’t seem to be going anywhere at all. Mob ( Fallhaven Pig) at ilvl280 were dying to me in 11 seconds. Same mobs at ilvl340 were dying to me in 10 seconds. Same Mobs at 380 are dying to me in… 8 seconds. The pigs have something like 40% more HP than they did originally. Gaining gear, just to have existing enemies, gain toughness , become harder to kill in response feels very very wrong.

Let us etch traits into our Heart of Azeroth. Expand trait trees for each spec and have the Heart change traits based on spec. (like Legion artifact but with neck instead of weapon).

Step 2: legendary weapons. We have a strong artifact neck now we can etch traits into, we just need a chance at a leggo weap.

Step 3: either add tier sets or give us secondary stats on the azerite gear. Make that shizz strong af. We don’t need traits on it. We need traits in our neck.

Step 4: take out most of the GCD changes. Let stuff happen fast. The power creep is not out of control yet, and when power creep does get out of control, if the expansion’s hot your subscriber base will be larger than ever.

i don’t feel motivated to raid either uldir of dazarlazor, i don’t care about a random titan facility going nuts and i don’t want to fight mekkatorke or jaina, like why would i betray my dear comrades?
and even their rewards are pretty lame, no tier for class. only mounts that i will solo farm in a year or two.

so if i don’t want to raid, i don’t care about m+,island expedition or warfronts. it breaks almost the entire game.
luckily i am trying pvp with my alts.

the good about bfa? the art team and some story arcs.
everything else is pretty “meh”
the bad? time gating the story, especially the war campaign.
like “2 hours of gameplay and see you january 22!”
and waiting even more to have kultirans.
and the main story has been horribly written i don’t care that much about faction war. only about the characters in the alliance because i feel like i am doing nothing fighting the horde, killing some randoms orcs and trolls and the “fordahurd” boring.

The story. Pretty much everything else I could have dealt with. The rep gating the time time gating the poor class design the rng all of these are things players deal with in their own way and you just have to roll with it tll changes are made.

The story though, that totally blew up in BFA. The Horde bias has always been strong but in BFA the devs decided it was a great idea to sacrifice all of my years of investment into the game, its lore, its races, and my characters for the sake of their Twilight fanfic level self inserts and “rule of cool” For the Horde bull hockey.

The fact the devs care so little about such a large portion of their players investment into the game is what finally made me throw up my hands in surrender.

I just find it boring to play. There’s nothing new in the sit-down-at-the-keyboard sense to keep me engaged. There’s no goals I can work towards in a meaningful way, everything’s timegated. Even my old go-to of dungeon running feels hollow, since M+ means I will never actually “beat” the dungeon, just face harder and harder versions until I give up.

Which I guess I did. Woo. Grats dungeon bosses?

  1. Horde bias among developers and story leads. Horde content made first, alliance gets the scraps. exp- horse mounts.
  2. Delaying flying for months , falls under time gating.
  3. Time gates story and content just for sub grabs.
  4. Writers that lack the skills to tell good story in game. BFA has tons of bad writing.
  5. Constant class changes each expansion , pushing players to relearn there own class.
  6. Professions like gathering still ignored not addressed in patch.
  7. Devs seem to want to limit how much they actually fix just to play by ear. On how long they can go before they have to change things to keep players.
  8. Gold rewards from mission tables to low. It’s not rewarding enough.
  9. Rng can I say more?
  10. Lead dev tries to use lawyer talk to convince players that the devs views are better.
11.BFA felt rushed not polished like it should have been.
  11. Feedback in beta ignored.
  12. Sylvannas and the enormous amount of plot armor.
  13. Alliance constantly having to deal with humans in control.
  14. Alliance doesn’t get to cutloose and be ruthless.
15.Terrain in BFA is worse then highmoutain. Trying to navigate around objects to time consuming.
16.They took aspects/rewards from legion and reduced them to much, gold, rep, etc.
17 . Even though alot of sites, youtubers and gamers spoke out about the darkshore storyline. Alex and Danuser pushed it to live.
