But it would have to be proven that a specific person devoured the soul, and the devouring lead to the death.
Legality aside, I can’t imagine a scenario where a soul is devoured but still ‘lives’ would be particularly pleasant. Seems like one of those ‘fate worse than death’ kind of things. If anything, that should be illegal. Really any non-consensual manipulation of souls should be illegal; but what do I know? I’m a neet not a lawyer.

I don’t know, my warlock started draining someone’s soul and the dragon cops in CoT got real mad about it.
This is why I carry anima on me, very rarely do I or the kids eat a soul. Now if you just got some guy bound for Death Row, can I has his soul?

Well if you go by Supernatural rules. Being souless is kinda like being a sociopath. You just lack a conscience. You’re still alive. You’re still you. You’re just not bothered by the rights and wrongs of what you’re doing.
You also don’t need sleep anymore. Not sure what that one is about. But that would actually be a boon, imo.
I’ll admit, I didn’t consider the mortal coil still being whole, much less alive and functioning.

Eating a soul is just like eating a solid person, there’s only so much you can tear off before you do irreparable damage at any given time.
Only warlocks and demon hunters use magic that CAN devour souls anyway so the rest of you don’t have to be worried about being arrested. Oh and when fel magic devours a soul that’s quite literal. There’s nothing left. That being’s entire existence is gone forever. Body and soul. No shadowlands don’t pass go don’t collect 200 souls for venari because your entire being akd consciousness have been wiped from existence
