I would like to make a suggestion for future releases of the Windows version of the Battle.net client as well as the WoW application.
Please make a 64-bit version of both Battle.net Launcher.exe
and Battle.net.exe
. This would allow more effective use of x86-64 NX bit and ASLR technologies. Let’s face it. How many gamers these days are using a 32-bit OS? Not many. The improved security posture more than makes up for the marginally larger executable size.
Also, please comply with Windows development guidelines and place all 64-bit code in %PROGRAMFILES%
rather than %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%
. This has been Microsoft’s recommendation since Windows XP Professional x64 Edition was released back in 2005.
Hopefully I posted in the appropriate forum.
/Eyes my Oracle VM VirtualBox with my copy of Windows XP installed.
They do this simply out of tradition and don’t see much of a reason to change that. Every game that is 64bit (or not) gets installed to that folder anyways.
Plus, can’t you change the default installation here?
Also, what sort of problem or issue or… what is the reason you want battle.net to be 64 bit anyways?.. Sure, i wouldn’t have a problem with that, but i’m curious on what’s the reason?
moar bits better programs.
…So basically OP want the program to have a higher memory capacity to be more… stable?..
Idk, enlighten me on that one actually. I’m the sort who only see Battle.net for like 5 seconds before it being minimized and going into the game.
Also…
WoW is already a 64 bit program. The easiest way to tell is on Windows 10, you can open up your Task manager and look at your programs. If the program is 32 bit, it will say in the name like this MSIatferburner (32 bit)
. If not, then it’s 64 bit.
