Tech Support, Hello, you there?

I am on Gul’dan server. I have installed all the latest drivers. I have renamed folders and reloaded game. I have run trcerts with 15 hops coming back 23-32ms pings (to blizzard and random sites). I use Starlink and at the worst I am at 240UL and 15DL, usually 350/35. I have graphic setting set to 1 (so its like playing WC 1, back in 1997). ISSUE: I load game, i am in a local, everything is fine. I move a few hundred meters and the game lags out to 10kMS… after a minute, the game returns to normal, no lag… I enter a dungeon, game lags, I run to first boss and he’s dead with all the encounters and spell effects catching up at 3000% speed. If i stand there, no lag. I move to follow group, lag. I cast a spell, lag.
I remain unsure what if anything is causing this issue as i only experienced lag since the new expansion/patch. No other apps are affected and for the last 3 days, the game has been almost unplayable. If I were a new player, i would return the game immediately. Please let me know what information you need to identify the problem.

Very first hop is 25ms…
24 ms 25 ms 23 ms 100.64.0.1
Something is between you and there is the start of the issue.

Starlink is not going to be good for wow beyond just playing low level areas.

Thanks but I don;t know what that means. Between me and the internet is another computer that manages the router and all that crap, then the router, then the dish… I don;t understand why starlink is bad, it runs at 250MB UL and 30MB DL… I had zero problems until the patch on Wednesday.

Ok …
The ms at 25 would be 600 miles away for how I understand the ping number.

All I am saying is the issue starts between you and that office IP address…100.64.0.1.
by that number above… Ping numbers.
Requarless of my opinion of Starlink.
I think Starlink is Great for what it is intenended to do.

I think 23 is good, compared to what Dish Network used to run “Back in the day”.

Starlink sats are listed as orbiting at an altitude of between 200-400 miles. I’m not sure if it hops between satellites, but eventually that packet has to hop from ground, to satellite, then return back to ground before returning.

The connection between you and the computer managing the connection isn’t good. The ping should be below 5ms if it’s in the same building as you. Beyond that, 5G mobile broadband and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites deprioritize gaming traffic. That is why they aren’t optimal for gaming. It doesn’t mean you can’t use them, just don’t expect a good connection most of the time.

Oh wow! THat’s the best forum string of feedback i have ever gotten… TY so very much. I can look up how to decrease the 23ms down to 5ms but not even sure where to start… Thanks again so very much, all of you.

Sorry to say the truth…
There is no fix… Nothing you can do shorten the distance your signal has to travel to and from your ISP.

Well it’s not the ISP, it’s a local computer managing the connection. A gateway in the same building.

Oh… Sorry…
100.64.0.1 is local then all is good.

Starlink’s latency, or ping, is typically between 25 and 60 milliseconds (ms) on land, but can be over 100 ms in remote areas. Starlink’s engineering teams are working to improve network performance and achieve a median latency of 20 ms with minimal packet loss

That was a AI responce too…not my opinion. My opinion would be. Starlink should set up DNC lines to give online gaming world wide… Come on M$ … A WowVpn for WWi Starlink users.
45million…wow
Thanks

That 25 ms is normal for starlink the modem that connects the uplink is not the gateway the gateway is after it bounces to the satellite and then back to Earth.
