I have an older computer with an hdd. For the next expansion I was thinking about getting an external ssd to help with loading times since it’s a little slow loading everything in now, especially in Valdrakken. But my usb ports are 3.0 rather than 3.2, which means I wouldn’t get the max speed of an external ssd. My question is, would the ssd still be faster than the internal hdd, or would it be a waste of money?
If you aren’t ready to buy a new PC your best bet is to buy an internal SSD and do a fresh install of Windows on it. If you don’t have M.2 slots a 2.5" SSD will work great. An external SSD may work since I used to play on a USB 2.0 flash drive many years ago at work. Swapping out your HDD will be like having a new PC though.
Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t sure if an internal SSD would be compatible with my older hardware. I was also trying to avoid the new windows install and had planned on using the Easeus clone software but then I ran into the 3.0 vs 3.2 issue. Now I’m reading comments about Easeus being kinda sketchy so now I’m rethinking the whole thing.
If you can figure out what board you have, that’s pretty easy to determine.
Yeah I’ve been doing some more reading on it. My motherboard is sata 6 so a 2.5 should work far as I can tell. If I do try to upgrade I think I’m gonna try that way instead of the external. Sounds like it would be a lot better if it works. Thanks all for the help.
A SATA SSD is significantly slower than an M.2 SSD, but light years faster than an HDD.
