Dude is single handedly ruining the Horde story… even more than what they did to Sylvanas.
Why the hell is a edgy human with red eyes giving me all my quests? It’s just annoying bro. Why is he front and center?? Every time I fly by a world quest this dudes voice pops up. Like who are you again? Where were you for the past 10 years? Like nah Nathanos, you don’t know crap about the Horde why are you giving me all these commands and talking down to me like you are the most red blooded Hordie lol. You a damn human. A human, but with red eyes, so the Cult of Edginess decided you were perfect to be front and center for my faction.
Why does nobody speak of this? Everybody is complaining about old school Horde characters, Baine, Saurfang, etc… but are all fine with this jackass red eyed human being the most prominent Horde commander.

It’s almost like Nathanos “Champion of the Banshee Queen” Blightcaller is around more than he was before because Sylvanas became a more important character in the story or something.

He has to be the worst character on the Horde. I’m tired of seeing him everywhere.

Dude is no joke a self insert of his writer. The dude that wrote him and voices him has stated he was a massive Sylvanas fan for a while. He has so much plot armor given to him by his writer that it’s pretty clear he is a self-insert.

Yeah, and it’s stupid. That’s what I am saying lol. A red eyed human is giving me orders.

that explains why he needed the makeover: harder for someone to self-insert with a visibly rotting zombie.
But yeah OP, even seeing him in the raid cutscene ordering the Zandalari around in their own city was annoying as hell.

An undead is giving you orders and he’ll only be giving you orders until Sylvanas is out of the spotlight and we get the next important NPC that’ll hang around for a few years telling us what to do.
The “dude that wrote him” isn’t his voice actor.

I don’t mind his attitude, but it does bother me that he’s involved in both the Darkshore and Dazar’alor battles. Sure they don’t exactly happen at the same time, but they happen close in time to one another, and happen across the world. Nathanos being so heavily involved in both major battles of the patch across the world in such a short amount of time is probably the first time Nathanos has bothered me.
Jim Pirri? On the writing team? You sure?

/sigh
Nathanos has been around many years longer than the writer in question.
Nathanos is not voiced by his writer.
Being a fan of one character is not an indication that one uses another character to self-insert and become her fantasy companion.
Nathanos has exactly as much plot armor as any other character not written to die.

My mistake. I was told that the writer and VA were the same person.
I’ve always kind of admired forsaken and orc RPers for being able to sympathize with and put themselves into the mindset of someone who’s not only been through very different life experiences than themselves, but who also look very different from a conventionally attractive human.
Thats why it disappoints me when the writers do things like give Thrall more human features than any orc, with his eyebrows and bright blue eyes and standing upright (something unique to him for a while), and like literally putting Nathanos in a human suit. It feels like a cheap copout.

i dislike that he is in darkshore and leading the defense of the troll raid, wasted opportunity for a troll character.
so… what happened exactly in darkshore? did tyrande super saiya retake the land?

The Worgen have suffered a similar experience to the Forsaken (Ironicly they hate eachother, but that’s the fault of Garrosh and Sylvanas). Yet when we see Genn he is always in his Worgen form except when in combat.

Uhh I don’t agree that they made Thrall look ‘more human’. There have been orcs with eyebrows before Thrall got them, like the Farseer and Blademasters in WCIII.
Orcs havning a hunch is a purely WoW thing. Both in WCIII and in lore, orcs are straight back, the choice to give them a hunch was purely to give them a distinctive silhouette back when Blizzard cared about that. They don’t anymore, so orcs have straight backs. But it was nothing but a game mechanic and contradicted lore.
Thrall’s model update brought him more in line with how WoW orcs were supposed to look.
It’s a warfront, so it’s back and forth.

yes, exactly: the WoW model for orcs was more hunched and inhuman-looking than the WC3 one for whatever reason blizz gave at the time, but that wasn’t worth letting Thrall look like that for very long.
Thrall’s appearance was important for them. He had to be dignified and relatable and emote with his eyebrows. So before any other orc could lose their hunch, they had Thrall stand upright and have an intelligent and thoughtful face. I think he’s still the only WoW orc with eyebrows, for some reason.
Maybe I’m going too far when I say he “looks more human”, but he certainly was made to look more respectable and relatable by giving him features nonstandard to other ingame orcs back in the day. So it is with Nathanos.
It’d be like having a fantasy race of which everyone speaks with a silly, squeaky chipmunk voice except for the leader/representative, who’s voiced by Morgan Freeman so you can respect him and empathize with him.
Everyone is.
Probably because he’s a self-insert for Steve Danuser.

He’d be more tolerable if he had someone to banter with. No, he doesn’t have to worship the PC, but stop writing us as punching bags for his wit.

Like in “a good war”, his interactions with Saurfang are entertaining. If that were in game, he would probably be more palatable… but the story wants to be “oooo, the scarey undedz are evul”, so they wont show anything but that.

At least he isn’t the one aiding the Alliance in the destruction of the Horde and is directly responsible for the loss of Horde Soldiers and lives, like… let us say… Baine and Saurfang who have both murdered Horde Soldiers to help their actual allies: The Alliance.

Baine and Saurfang who abide by the original honor of the Horde being traitors… as opposed to 2 Forsaken who have always only had an “alliance of convenience” with the Horde throwing everything the faction stands for under the bus… okay.
Don’t let these buttkissers fool you. Danuser is the lead narrative designer of the game and voice actor of Nathanos. He also wrote a short story about Nathanos. It’s perfectly reasonable to link the two together.
An “undead” that looks like a human with red eyes bro lmao. Why do you’ll have a problem with Calia? She’ll be a human with golden eyes that is also an “undead”. Don’t wanna see y’all complaining when she becomes a prominent npc.
