TBC - raid "pvp" gear

Given you can get tons of honor gear for any class, including weapons in arena…does raid content even “have” slots of gear some classes need for Arena? Perhaps int he last phase? I mean which classes even benefit from raiding if their primary focus is arena pvp? Maybe outside of rouges for the legendaries?

The trinket from Illidan is considered to be BiS by a lot of players for healers in arena.

I’d go so far as to say that anything with armor piercing on it has a high chance of being BiS for arena as well.

Varies from class to class.

Pretty much all classes want pve trinkets, some want weapons, and some want a few off pieces.

You can perform just fine without any of this of course but the pve stuff will give you a slight edge

But what about resilience? Didnt TBC introduce that on its pvp gear?

It depends on what your comp is and which bracket you were in. In 2s, resilience wasn’t really the priority for the most part since a lack of damage output really hurt you against drain-tanks. On the other hand, resilience was still a factor there to a large degree as well for reducing the amount you were drained for.

Nonetheless, raw value was almost always the defining factor for how players picked pieces rather than stacking resilience. In other words, the overall value of any item had a higher priority than just spamming resilience.

For 3s and 5s, resilience was valued higher for any number of different reasons.

It will be dependent upon how they stagger Arena and PvP content releases. Presumably we’ll get the following:

  • Arena 1 - Kara/Gruul/Mag
  • Arena 2 - SSC/TK/ZA
  • Arena 3 - BT/Hyjal
  • Arena 4 - Sunwell

If that gets jacked up at all, such that people can get Kael’thas or Vashj weapons before Arena 1 is finished, people will absolutely go for those over Gladiator weapons, along with the Master Blacksmith weapons like Stormherald since Nether Vortexes will be available too.

Assuming we don’t get uneven releases, some weapons will still be good, especially for Healers if they happen to have insane Spirit and/or Healing. The Archimonde staff is exceptional for longevity and it was noticeable across 20+ min 2v2 matches when I only had the S3 healer weapon and they had that thing. Likewise there are trinkets that can really make classes pop off, along with classes that really benefit from Haste or ArPen stacking.

It really comes down to gear availability on a per-season basis, and what kind of match you get involved in (2’s, 3’s, or 5’s).

Resilience is good, when you are being attacked, but if you’re not the primary focus might as well gear for a little more regen/damage.

Does this mean I think you should go full pve gear? Of course not, however you can definitely get away with using a few key pieces.

Like others have said the value of the item matters the most. Just as an example, if a pvp weapon gives you 50 spell power and 20 resil and a pve weapon gives you 150 spell power but no resil. You’re probably better off using the pve weapon
