TBC: nameplate range increase maybe?

Really hope we can get nameplate distance further than the current 20 yards.

The 20 yard nameplate “feature” is a straight-up insult to ranged characters.

So melee get to see details about their targets all the time and we only get to see them when we are way too close?

Even just 25 or 30 yards would make a big difference in many situations.

Didn’t it get extended somewhat in TBC anyway? If not, I hope so. It is ridiculous given how friggin far away you can get while still engaging enemies and we still have giant rooms for TBC bosses so… yeah.

Everything I’ve found while searching nameplate range shows people complaining about 20 yard range during TBC vanilla and private servers. Are you certain this was changed?

definitely seems to me that in some tbc private server videos, the 20 yard limit is still in place.

Ill point out that plying melee is more risk than range by a lot.

Please allow maybe 40 yards nameplate or 60 yards like retail. Big QOL improvement.

I dont even understand the argument against this. I cant see nameplates at all until mobs are practically on top of me in classic, its idiotic.

It’s a small subset of pvp players who still hold to the illusion that world pvp is THE GAME. (translated, they like to gank low level toons)

For the rest of us with ANY range it is rough. I will get told to go back to retail for this, but for the longest time I hardly look at the enemy unit frame, but instead use the nameplate with debuff info as my progress indicator.

I love threat plates. But they are useless on a hunter in classic.

I played Melee in TBC and Wrath, so…I guess I just didnt realize this was an issue. (I was a noob in Vanilla, so ignorance was bliss…)

The reason it was so short originally was a technical issue, and not one on blizzards end. It was to keep the potato pcs from back in the day to dropping frames and fps very dramatically. There is really no reason for it to remain short distance, just like leeway doesn’t need to exist with modern computers and connection speeds.

Actually Leeway (a whole different thing we can spend a thread on) does have a use even now. It helps keep all players in sync across varying connection types and latencies. For example the player from Australia who chooses to play on a U.S. server depends on Leeway to make the game playable.

This is one of those things that was limited by hardware/software back in the day that should be displayed even in classic when it released, to the normal range like in retail. Along with cast bars…

If this were REMOTELY the case Leeway would exist in the same state on retail, you know, to lift up and support or poor unfortunate australian brethren who simply want to play on NA servers.
