TBC Heroic gem nerf - really needed?

So a +5 Int, +6 Sta gem and the +5 Str/+6 Sta gem is now +1/+1. That’s scaling correctly?

Quick backstory - I only had 1 lvl 60 character (my mage - love him), but once I saw the flying spell tome I knew I need it. Only thing is - I am an OK player at best, and I didn’t have any other character even close to 50. So, I go on a mission to get the 2 other classes I need up to 60 (monk and warrior) and gear them ONLY for time walking (I don’t want to play other classes). Then I listen to Edna Mould (read in her voice) - “Darling, luck favors the prepared.” I run SoO every week for my 3 toons and religiously clear Heroic TBC dungeons daily for a shot at the +5/+6 gem (8% drop rate). Being that I did this over 7-8 weeks, I had quite a few. And yes, I sorta overgeared MT, but %^!$#% - I put in the time/effort to get a slight edge in gear (remember - there was only going to be a 2-week window before it vanished for 6 months).

Fast forward, and I have 3/7 done, but the powers that be feel like it’s time to pump the brakes. Now I have to replace all those gems when the market is insane (I bought gems early and got my cataclysm jewel crafting up so I could make them at cost - but now it’s nuts) - and in all reality, I will most likely struggle to finish the last 4 (definitely tank and healer as I have never even looked at the spec).

Not gonna lie, I’m a little butt hurt over this. Wasted my time/energy. I know a lot of peeps aren’t going to sympathize. Just sucks that I invested heavily, knowing my odds were low, did everything in my power to put myself in the best position possible, only to possibly see it all for naught.

So, if maybe scaling the gem to something like +3/+3 so at least I don’t have to REPLACE them all, that would be swell.

See I just always hear:

Was it necessary? Probably not… but they’ve messed up scaling so bad they can’t just adjust iLvL because of the squishes. So not sure what else they could have done. All the gear between 1 and ~50 scales nearly linearly… which doesn’t leave a lot of room for stat gaps. Since BC stuff is now effectively 1-20 or less… that means it gets nerfed into the ground.

I feel ya man. i was heartbroken to see all my time and effort wasted, and it seems to me that Blizz has much bigger things to deal with right now then the tuning of 1 gem lol. But ppl who dont twink will love our misery b/c they dont get it, and ppl who have twinked before will feel it like we do.

I do think the BC heroic gems need to be attuned a bit more to at least still be worth farming. Like I actually found that there is another Timeless Tanzanite you can get from Mana-Tombs that give +2 Intellect and +2 Stamina which is better than the one from Black Morass now. They basically made two different versions of that gem while the one from Shattered Halls is now a +4 Strength and +4 Stamina gem which gives the same amount of Strength as the Bold Queen’s Garnet but with the Stamina of the Solid Deepholm Iolite from Dragon Soul.

the 4+4 gems say that but when you try and socket them they only give 2+2. so silly lol.

I was about to post the same issue.

I am absolutely quite frustrated at their petty, insignificant, minuscule, borderline thieving absolutely lowest below 6ft below change.

I busted my ash for those sovereign gems, many many many runs, many hours, many weeks, just so i can be a good tank with those precious 5str 6 stam gems. They missed this gem throughout all the changes in the years of changes, it was never changed until recently. Now its a 4+4, HOWEVER, it gets scaled to 2+2 in Wrath timewalking, THEY ARE HEROIC TBC GEMS and they get scaled???

Its mentally disrupting to see such a Fd up petty change as this, it could cause someone to need a therapist and cry. I had some really good runs and farming them was worth it, but Jesus… I mean I did finally get my infinite timereaver after 4,000 kills. and those gems made the runs smooth and fun and really helped carry some low gearing noobs who had some really bad gear on. Many Illidan timewalking kills and Yogg encounters, I was a good tank, but now…just seems like they want to extend the time metrics even more, because they are good at it. that and the shop mounts. how disgusting

They are losing subs over the years, people are selling all their memorabilia and they want nothing to do with it anymore and THEY MAKE A CHANGE LIKE THIS? Really, how many are actually playing TBC classic, we’ve been there, we did that. I mean its fun to relive it, but they will eventually nerf those bosses too and the trash mobs.

They really have become a shadow, a disgrace, a disappointment…and it all happened since the end of Legion, even legion had some serious downfalls. at least it was still great and fun. How does WoW ruin itself in as little as 3-4 years after being around since 2004? Their treatment of the employees, their negligence and passive attitude with player feedback, etc… They really have sold their souls to the big $$, sad they dont see the end result.

I really hope MS boots the bad out like a bad timing BSOD.

I really wish it was still 2007, even though the housing market crashed, etc…I’d take the housing market crash again over this stupid covid crap. I have my 3 shots, but thats so i can cruise and it really hasnt affected me, so…

Blizz needs some passionate people who actually listen.

This change is just beyond comprehension, ridiculous and uncalled for.

A 5+6 gem reduced to 2+2 in TW, that is 3 STR PER GEM, 4 STAM PER GEM As fury, I could equip 38 gems at one time. ~ 32 gems being the 5+6, so 32 x 3 = 96 strength! gone. 32 gems x 4 stam is 128 stamina! gone.

With that said, you can still “twink” for timewalking using full azerite stuff, the BFA cape, SL “legendary” gear and other stuff.

Still, a change like this has made a difference in dungeons.
