TBC / Classic XP nerf affects legitimate dungeon groups

The XP nerf to address boosting affects legitimate dungeon groups, especially in lower-level Azeroth dungeons which have a high range in mob level from start to finish.

It appears to work in this manner: if a party member engages in combat with a mob (or possibly is just close enough/in group) and that mob is “gray” to them, the remaining party members only receive the nerfed amount of XP from that mob. This can become even worse as party members level up throughout a dungeon.

For example, I watched a stream today (EU server) of a Maraudon dungeon group where a level 53 player in the group caused the XP nerf to activate on mobs at level 44 and below. I can post a link to the vod once it’s available.

This behavior is completely antithetical to the intent of the XP nerf, and a very poor user experience for players who are trying to level legitimately. Please fix this or roll back the changes until a proper fix is ready.

Yeah. Most of the vanilla dungeons had level wings. Like Uldaman for example. The first half has much lower mobs. In fact, the quests there have you go half way in and then leave and come back.

Same with Mauradon. You need to bench the level 53 and form a group for which wing you want to do based on the level of mobs you want to fight. Those level 44 players are not gonna do anything to the mobs and bosses at the very end which makes the level 53… a booster.

The nerf shouldn’t have been based on mob level, it should be based on the highest level of the party versus the lowest, and nerfed experience based on that disparity.

Really hoping Blizzard will fix this. I’m so glad to see people making groups now, but it’s very frustrating to be level locked out of a dungeon…

This happened to me first day of the patch. On my lvl 33 Warrior I still had two green quests for Stockades. I was sapping the xp so bad that my group bailed after the second pull. Like wtf, I’m not carrying a stocks group at 33! And like op said, my quests were still green!

What an incredibly botched solution to boosting. Now I can’t even run dungeons with my wife who has a character just several levels lower than me. I really hope a fix is coming after todays maintenance, because this severely impacts the way I legitimately play the game.

That would have let SP boosts still be a thing since the mobs are green to the boosters.

I ran Deadmines on my shaman last night… group make-up was a 16 druid, 16 shaman, 20 rogue, 22 rogue, 28 hunter… I was getting literally 4 xp per kill. Whatever constitutes a “boost” needs to be much less strict. It wasn’t like. 60-70 was speed running us through.

What you call a necessary evil is making the game worse than any RMT ever has.

Definitely not a necessary evil. There are other ways to combat boosting that would not impact legitimate dungeon runs.

I agree with this 100%.

There should be a max level for each dungeon, but blanket cutting of XP if anything is grey to anyone is one of the laziest work arounds I’ve ever seen.

Lol what a joke of a half butt solution. I bet they were all patting each other on the bak months ago when they came up with this and didn’t do any testing for outlier scenarios and called it a day.

Get mad at the exploiters and streamers for creating a dominate meta of afk leveling and aoe gold churning. They are the reason blizzard had to resort to such global extremes. Some situations it sucks but players will adapt

For every 10 people trying to level legitimately, they will now be able to group with the 90 people who were just afking in dungeons while being boosted as soon as they were able to step into DM/RFC. It’s time you two groups met before level 65.

Gdkp where’s today’s mega troll thread?

Yes, you are carrying a stockades at level 33. The mobs are like 8 levels below you. It doesnt matter if the quests are green or not. You are way ahead of that dungeon.

The hunter is way ahead of the dead mines mobs. That hunter is 12 levels higher than the level 16’s. That’s a booster. Hes probably doing 80% of the damage of the whole group.

did you not see that they made changes to how SP mobs work where they are now teleport to players, therefor the boosting methods for SlavePens dont work anymore
