TBC Classic: Weird bright spots on the ground

I noticed this in the beta, too. I get these sun spot type bright patches on the ground and my characters seem to have a “light” shining on them. I noticed especially in Felwood.

Hi Caeylas

I see what you are saying in the video. Let’s have a look at your DXDiag system report:

The second section of page has DXDiag report instructions - we don’t require the MSinfo report.

That will be a wall of text. If you have issues pasting on the Forum here go ahead and put it up on pastebin.com. Provide the link code portion of the URL - example below.

(The green bold portion at the end of this example link: https://pastebin.com/Qk28Ed1P <=== this code)

Alternately you can place the link in a Preformatted Text box. Paste the link in the chatbox - then highlight it. Click the preformatted text button along the top of the chatbox - looks like this </>

Will look like this example afterwards:

I notice this as well, same with my roommate.

I have a 3060ti, and he has a 3070.

Hi Tratt,

The video is exactly what I am seeing. It’s sometimes much closer to the character. It seems to happen in gloomy or foggy areas, for me, it was in Felwood. Changing the graphics settings made no difference.

Let’s get your Nvidia up to date running the DDU tool to clear out old remnants.

Download this driver:

NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL

Download the DDU tool here:

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V18.0.3.9 Released. - Wagnardsoft Forum

(scroll down on page for Official Download Here link)

Basically you extract the uninstaller from the download. (it will extract to a folder called DDU - the tool is inside that folder)

*Important: Unplug the Ethernet or disable the Wifi to avoid Windows automatic driver installation.

I like to boot the computer into safe mode then run the DDU tool. (This isn’t essential you can ignore the tools warning. You will need to confirm you have the windows password before you do so. If you are using a PIN Windows may ask for the actual password after running safe mode.)

Leave the tool settings on defaults then select Graphics type then Nvidia. Run the recommended “Clean then restart”.

Now for the install. Start the driver download. Select Graphics only (no GeForce Experience). Select Custom install carry on to the next pane. There is a box to check for Clean Install select (check) that box. (Resets the Nvidia control panel and profiles to defaults)

You will see a Windows Smart Screen warning when you start the Driver install as you are offline - ignore that.

I will try it, but the reason I am on old drivers is because anything past like 457.xx don’t work well with Shadowlands. This is a known issue that’s even listed in Nvidia’s release notes. I am still willing to give it a try. I will report back.

Sorry, I replied on my iPad which had a different character selected.

Ahh yes the Nvidia Windows Wow bug. I only play Classic these days so I haven’t ran into that.

For what it’s worth, I’m currently on the most recent drivers after using DDU and still noticing it here.

An interesting quirk - turning ground clutter down to 1 and then back to 10 fixes it for a little bit, but it eventually comes back.

This is starting to look more like a game bug of sorts.

I have this same issue, random highlight son plants in felwood, it went away when i turned on raytraced shadows

Finally got on to do some flower picking in Ungoro and I’m seeing these spots as well. I will try Obvious’s fix.

Ray Trace had no effect - tried a few other settings as well.

I have some info.

I tried the new driver, it still does it. :frowning:

I went back to Felwood and I didn’t see it for a bit. Then, I picked a Songflower, which applied the buff and your character gets a quick glow effect, indicating the buff applied (as usual). After that, I had this bright spot on the ground following me and changing when I spin the camera. Turning ground clutter from 10 to 1, then back to 10 fixed it, but it seemed to come back, but in the distance. I am not sure if it was as pronounced.

I took a screenshot, but I’m not sure how to post it here.

Apparently, when your character lights up or glows, it does something weird to the ground clutter. Also, the FP person in Azshara (alliance) has a weird glow on them, but no light source. It’s like they are standing in fire.

This seems strangely similar to the problems that Shadowlands currently has.

I am also having the same issue on a 3080 with the most recent driver.

I have this also. It’s a large green square of light and shows up on any character in any zone. It shines up from underground and appears sometimes across the screen and sometimes close to my character. It follows camera movement not character movement. It started in TBC beta and has carried over into live. It doesn’t really affect anything but is visually annoying. New system with 3070 and updated drivers. Changing graphic settings does nothing.

I no longer see this after the server restart. I’m not saying fixed yet though.

I still have mine. Except it’s red now.

What you are describing is different from what I was seeing Clovie. As I was riding along in certain areas plants on the ground would look like someone was shining a light on them. This beam would move along with me and with camera movement. It was only on plants - not the ground.

It was only plants that the ground clutter effect controls.

Yeah mine is constant from under any surface. I don’t see it indoors though. If I move the camera somewhere with no plants the rocks on the ground will glow. Well, it mostly shows up first where there are plants but will follow the camera onto any surface.

I’m currently playing a on Azuremyst Isle and others in chat are talking about seeing it too.

Seeing the same thing here and I have a 2080 TI
