There was an update today (I downloaded a patch about an hour ago), did that supposedly fix it? I’ll have to check.
I’m still seeing it, I thought it was gone, too, but it came back. It seems to have something to do with the light source from the Sun. I was in Hinterlands and the sun was going down and the sky was reddish…the large “dot” following me was red.
I set the game to DX11 and it’s gone. Seems to be a similar issue to what Shadowlands has.
I’m relieved I’m not the ONLY one experiencing this! It’s random, it’s on BOTH of my computers, so I know it isn’t on my end. And it’s like someone is carrying a lantern about 10 yds in front of me to either the left or the right.
So… are they going to fix it? Or even try? Seriously? It isn’t a game-breaker, but it’s darned annoying!
As Caeylas said - it looks like TBC running DX 12 has fallen to the same odd bugs that Retail suffers. Those issues have been ongoing for a few months. Last I saw Nvidia may be close to a solution.
3070 here. Experiencing same as you, it’s very annoying.
Same issue here… Beam of light following character around and it shifts with camaera angle. I tried switching to DX11 and it did make it go away so I would think its a bug with DX12? I had to use DX11 Legacy tho because even tho reg DX11 fixed the issue it made the game wayyy to choppy. DX11 Legacy solves the issue an no choppiness. System specs Core™ i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz, 32 gb ram, card is Geforce RTX 2060 on windows 10 pro 64 bit OS on a WD SSD.
*I also am running the most current graphics driver for card.
Having the same issue as well and just want to shed some light on what I’ve found through testing etc.

Windows 10 2004 Update (with latest windows update)
Intel i7-8700k
Nvidia ASUS TUF RTX 3070

Issue only presents itself in DX12 as previously stated.
-
Regardless of setting, light will always return as long as you are in DX12.
-
Light seems to only be projected onto foliage. Turning down ground clutter will indeed reduce the problem, but only because you can’t see foliage and therefore no light.
-
It seems to only appear when spell is cast and hits a target (from my testing). Once it hits myself or a target, then it’s almost like a certain particle effect lighting will almost lock graphically and start to project onto foliage which moves with camera angle.
-
It has eventually disappeared over time, or can change colour if another spell is cast.
I get the bright sun spot as well. I have a gtx 3070.
I have to reset the graphics too “recommended” for it to dissapear.
Would be nice to have some acknowledgement or suggested setting to adjust from Blizzard about this. It’s getting really annoying.
There was an update to the BCC client and it’s now dated June 2 (build 38892). I did some testing and don’t see the effect any more, but I am not sure if it’s 100% fixed. I believe it might be.
There are still lighting issues though, at least with weapon effects. If you look at the Stormcaller caster sword from the Thrallmar rep quartermaster, it’s glowing effect is way too much. There are other items like this, too.
Tratt, can you try and verify that it’s gone for you?
Have any of the recent hotfixes corrected these lighting issues?
- Fixed an issue that caused lighting issues, such as an unintended shimmering on the ground, for some players.
or has this helped with anything?
- On PC and Mac, players can now utilize SSAO (Ambient Occlusion).
I’m considering resubbing if they are making improvements, but I’m not really hearing much about these fixes actually resulting in correcting anything.
Can confirm, this specific lighting bug has been fixed and SSAO is working properly.
Thanks ya’ll!
