TBC Classic Arena will have retail-style rating locks

Wrath classic hasn’t been announced yet…

As much as I don’t look forward to double-melee Shadowmourne teams, we all know WOTLK Classic is coming. Activision realized they have a new cash cow on their hands so this retro server release schedule will for sure continue.

Blizz will find a way to screw it up. Ion is liable to intentionally botch it so it doesn’t outperform his next expansion of borrowed power and systems.

It would be kind of cool if Classic forked from Retail such that there was new content that kept the old talent tree system and did not add borrowed power beyond armor sets or something. Something where, you know, you could come home from work to a game that felt like a game, not a second job with daily chores that had to be done.

I guess we should just be thankful that there aren’t 12 different ranks of PvP gear…

I distinctly remember unlocking slots at different ratings in TBC. I don’t remember what things were like from season to season, but also keep in mind the gear gaps were nothing like they are now. Honor gear could compete with S1 gear. S1 gear could compete against S2 gear, etc etc.

Yeah, this is what I remember. Unlocking bracers, rings, boots, etc as you gained more rating.

Strange that so many have a different memory on this. Perhaps they are thinking of some TBC private servers that had altered rules.

It isn’t a big deal because there aren’t a ton of other locks behind progression of your character. You get your 1800 item you have it unlocked to it’s max potential. Not the trash system now where you buy it and have to spend hours of honor to upgrade 1 item to it’s max. Stop crying it’s a different game with different systems compared to the current game.

No idea why they are implementing this change… It was never like this in TBC so why change it now??? We literally have issues around rating locked gear in Shadowlands and its causing ALOT of issues. This will just make players pay for boosts, to get to that rating and get the items…literally Shadowlands all over again. Should be no rating requirement for any of the pieces. Maybe weapons later seasons if anything like in wotlk. Less people will participate in pvp due to this. Classic wow already has enough issues with bots and people buying gold for GDKP. Why add another system that NEVER existed in tbc in the first place to cause people to mess with the economy of the game even more?

One change they are making that is new (still not sure where these “it was never like that” people are coming from) is that everyone starts at 0 instead of 1500. The first unlock was at 1550 iirc. That’s a pretty big change.

Ya but the mmr change really settles that.

This games pay2win now sadly. Blizz wants you to buy multiple wow tokens each week to pay the top 5% to carry you. They’re making obscene amounts of money with this in motion.

Ah this is the way it worked in TBC. The tweaked the rating requirements a little for whatever reason but it’s still only 4 pieces. After season 1 though you will have access to the previous seasons gear with no requirement. Which is good, because the gear power gap compared to what it is now is tiny.

Best pvp? Hmm ok I’ll just ignore mace spec and storm herald and rogue with mace spec and sl sl locks. TBC def wasnt the best.

yo didnt I tell you all that TBC arena is going to be even worse than retail? Yes of course gear is locked behind rating. If im not mistaken, gear was always locked behind rating up until MOP. I could be wrong but pretty sure it’s been a blizzard staple :slightly_smiling_face:

Yup sure is, Wrath had it’s moments too for amazing PvP however TBC takes the prize. It just was an incredible expansion. Feel like talent trees were in a great spot as well as class design. So TBC edges out Wrath as best PvP expansion.

I do like to think how much better Wrath would of been if they didn’t make the mistake of releasing DKs the hero class. Think Talent trees and a few things could of been better as well.

Yeah I was recalling TBC seasons 1, 2 and 3;
1 and 2 had no rating locks and the 3rd was only ~1850 for the weapon, ~2k for shoulders.

It looks like they are applying season 4 TBC from the get go, which is what is seen on the wowhead link.

It’s justifiable… though personally I was kinda looking forward to those first 3 seasons of TBC with no gear disparity.

Hopefully on retail they remove/shrink the gear gap, assuming they read the Revolol thread. So hard to play my alts.

Edit for context: I am the OP, posted on warlock, dunno if I can change it retrospectively.

no, it was removed after wotlk, by the end of wotlk they removed all ratings on gear and it was a very good move and now they do this lmao

My memory is a bit foggy, I didn’t pvp much back in tbc. Was there a resil set prior to the s1 gear? Or is starting fresh in pvp going to be even more miserable resilience-less fighting against teams with full resil gear?
