Taskbar not hiding - Windows 10

Good day all, and thanks for any input or ideas!

Over the past day or so, for no apparent reason, my taskbar in Windows 10 no longer hides when entering WoW (both Classic and Retail are affected).

Is this something that’s able to be fixed (I prefer to not have my taskbar set to “auto hide”, I find that annoying when not gaming).

Thanks for any thoughts or solutions!

have you tried shutting your computer off or restarting it? a lot of times that’ll do it.

Thank you, I forgot to mention that. It does solve the problem for a short time - then the problem returns :frowning:

It’s a problem I’ve been encountering for some time. Several years at the least.

As there is no fix, I use a work-around. When this happens, I hit ctrl-esc to bring up my start menu, and then click the WoW gameplay area. For me, this hides the taskbar.

I dislike auto-hide as well.

I’ll add that while this has been happening to me over the past, I dunno, two or three xpacs, it doesn’t happen to me all that frequently. Maybe once every other gaming session. More so if I am doing a lot of alt-tabbing, window switching, moving things between monitors, etc.

Try this:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc - Which will open task manager
  2. Under the Processes tab, right click on the Windows Explorer task and hit end task
  3. While Task Manager is still open hit File on the top left -> Run new task -> type explorer.exe and then hit enter.

Fixed the issue for me when this does happen.

Happy to help!

It happened to me recently, it might be because of windows update. :man_shrugging:

So as you’ve seen, this is caused by explorer getting messed up. So restarting explorer, or just restarting your computer, will get it working again, but if it’s happening constantly then obviously we’re not solving why it stops working in the first place. I’m not sure if this is something i can troubleshoot meaningfully, but there’s either an issue with your windows or with a program interfering with it i would imagine. Making sure windows is completely up to date would be my first step. Beyond that you might post a dxdiag to see if anything jumps out - https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/12988 - highlight the entire thing and hit the </> button

I’ve had the same problem for the last week. I had to shift it over to the right of the screen to stop blocking my task bars when it refuses to hide. I’m fairly sure its a windows problem from a recent update. Windows 10 is utter tripe.
