The game should NEVER give me a target that I did not select. I am so sick of being in combat and having the target I am attacking change due to the game mechanics.. NOT MY CHOICE….
I am okay if this is a stealth maneuver and I LOSE my target.
But the game should never just assign a different target than the one I have selected.. TOTAL F’n garbage bullSH^& mechanic… feels horrible, doesnt make the game better in ANY WAY.. its merely a copout for lazy developers…
FIX THIS GARBAGE!

Pretty sure you can adjust this in the settings. Not sure if they still have a target locking option but there is a setting that affects auto selecting new mobs that can toggle on and off.
Can’t guarantee it will fix it but I think the auto target selection tends to happen with melee classes and weapon attack classes. If you are on that mage do you still auto target with your spells?

The only mobs that forcefully change the player’s target to something else (that I can think of) is that one kobyss enemy in the former under water delves that creates a clone and the clone is automatically targeted when it spawns (and you have to tab back to the original creature)
And yeah it was an irritating creature

Like Saph said… check your options.
I don’t think this needed the swearing and meltdown you just had.

it’s always cute when people have meltdowns over their own user error
you’ll live.

Turn off Action/Active Targeting in your options. It will change your target based on what you are looking at.

Look at Action targeting in your game option. I think I had similar frustrations when it was turned on by default or user (me) error, lol. It targets based on your character’s proximity.
To find this setting:
-ESC>Options
-Upper right, search “target”
-About 1/3 of the way down, uncheck Enable Action Targeting.
Play with enabling Sticky targeting, too. The tooltip says your target is locked unless you hit escape or click another.

Sounds like user error.
Turn action targeting off and sticky targeting on.

Were you playing a melee character by chance? If you’re spamming abilities and your current target dies, hitting a melee ability will automatically target the next nearest attackable target. It’s less of an issue with ranged classes.
