Targeting and Nameplates - Help plz

I have played a Lock many times over the years, and I have always had one issue that causes me a LOT of problems. When Mobs are stacked up I have a VERY hard time being able to tell if all the mobs are fully dotted and I find it difficult retargeting them when the dots are about to expire when they are stacked up. It seems to me that by tabbing through all of them you may get them in a different order and the dot falls off, or you accidentally pass by the mob you wanted making you have to recycle through all of them all over.

What tricks or addons have you guys picked up over the years to help deal with this?

Also, Back in Legion, they made the Name Plate change nullifying all Name Plate Addons. Was this ever reverted? I remember at one time I had an addon that showed every target that I had DOTs on. It sat on the side of my screen and it was somewhat helpful. The problem I had with it was that the addon did not list the targets in the same order that my Tab was.

So, even though the top nameplate might have had all the dots listed but that might have been the 4th farthest target away from me. I also know that at once time you could click on the nameplate the addon showed and it would target the mob. I wish it still did that because that is exactly what I could use.

Threatplates is a great nameplate addon, loads of customization

Another nameplate addon is called Plater. It’s made by the same author that does the Details damage meter (in fact, you have to have Details for Plater to work properly). It’s VERY good and extremely customizable. It’s so customizable that it can be a little daunting at first but once you mess around with stuff you’ll figure out what you like best.

You can make adjustments to distance between stacking nameplates, size of clickable boxes, etc. If it’s all too much for you to figure out right away you can import other player’s Plater profiles from wago.io and use theirs…do some tweaks and make it yours to your own preferences. You might have some luck with Kalamazi’s nameplates…I just tried them myself but went back to my own and made some adjustments because his were just a bit too big for my taste. I might try them again someday with a mix of my own settings that I like.

I use TidyPlates, it has an option to control how nameplates stack.

I’ve used Plater, Tidyplates, and Kui, and they’re all pretty good. Mostly a preference thing imo. The biggest thing is to make sure you have stacking nameplates, rather than overlapping. To do this, go into Interface>Names>Nameplate Motion Type and select Stacking nameplates.
