Target Marking Schema

The DM vs VC convo has me pondering other server specific things

What was the “accepted” marking order for your server?

Ours was.

  1. Skull = Kill
  2. X = Offtank or second kill
  3. Moon was sheep
  4. Blue Square, Hunter ice trap
  5. Purple Diamond SAP (? memory is failing me, ive slept since then.)
  6. Orange Circle - Nipple ( giggidy)

For random parties that I joined: square was sap. But mostly because when we didn’t have a hunter: anything was used for sap.

Purple Diamond was always “Purple Diamond of Shame” for those who screwed up.

The Moon was for Worg Pup, because he’s awesome.

our was “how do you mark targets?”

Skull = Priority
X = 2nd Priority
Square = Trap
Moon = Sheep
Triangle = Sleep
Circle = Sap
Diamond = Warlock CC

Skull - 1st target
X - 2nd target
Moon - sheep
Star - sap (because it was a ninja star)
Square - ice trap (because it was an ice cube)
Diamond - banish (purple for lock class color)
Triangle - root or sleep (green for nature magic)
Circle - off tank (looked like a shield) or anything not covered elsewhere

“Oh no don’t make the warlock CC he always screws it up!” the number of times my CC target ended up pulling more mobs and wiping the group is infinite and to this day it still makes me laugh. They can’t make you CC if you pretend to be terrible at it :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s whatever your raid/party leader says it is.

Circle was sap for me, diamond was stack on 1 and green triangle was stack 2 if applicable. But Im from BC so not sure how different things were then.

Same as OP, except:

Purple Diamond - Banish
Green Triangle - Sap or Entangling Roots
Orange Circle - Off Tank
Yellow Star - Main Tank

That’s basically how I recall us doing it for the most part. The only things that would really change would be diamond/triangle/circle depending on which classes we have available to us.

Server?

Always varied by who organized it.

Any successful group will communicate at the beginning. Whatever they said, I rolled with and adapted accordingly.

How I marked:

:skull: - First
:x: - Second
:large_blue_circle: - Sap
:crescent_moon: - Sheep
:large_blue_diamond: - Banish

Skull and X are the only universal ones. All the rest varied by group.

Funny you should say that. I thought they where universal till week one of BFA with people who had never used CC every. I would mark a target with Skull and low and behold someone would sheep it or worst, focus on the X. I would shake my head and mumble under my breath something about kids these days or something like that.

Back during Vanilla and TBC you could tell a newcomer to the server or a transfer because of slight differences.

Yea i’ve seen people use moon as a universal CC for anytime there’s not a mage but I try to keep it to that list as, outside of moon which is virtually universal used as sheep, it has a pretty straightforward reasoning behind each icon.

Exactly. Same. Any time I see a moon I know by default it’s sheep if we have a raid. That one is almost as consistent as skull and X
