@Target Macros in PvE

For drag and drop spells, like death and decay, volley, blizzard, etc., let people do macros that drop the spell centered at your target. Currently, the best is @cursor macros which are not too bad especially if you don’t mind randomly casting spells on ceilings. But if it can be even more convenient, that would be awesome. Not in pvp because of traps and whatnot.

Example

/cast [@target][@mouseover] Blizzard

Would now cast Blizzard at the feet of your target (where they are at the start of the cast) by default without having to aim it. If you have no target, it would drop at your cursor. If there is no path available it would just work normally.

Bonus Post

If drag and drop spells could work this way in general (in pve), that would be awesome. Just dropping it at the same coordinates of whoever the macro is set up to choose. It could be like

\cast [@party1] Efflorescence

which would just cast efflorescence under the feet of whoever is party leader. Probably your tank.

or even

\cast [@focus] consecration

which would just cast consecration under whoever is your focus target, say your tank or priority kick target in m+

This was a thing briefly in SL before it was “fixed.” It would be a really nice option for those of us that have physical disabilities that sometimes make fine motor movement difficult.

I imagine they could disable the feature in pvp, if that’s the concern.

Yeah, the hope is that it can help a lot of people and increase accessibility at the same time.

I’m all for the Reticle-type spells having the ability to be centered on your current target.

In fact there was a brief period in SL where the devs accidentally broke something that provided this ability. Ret’s Final Reckoning and Frost-Mage’s Blizzard never felt so easy to place where you wanted it! However, clearly the devs do NOT want us to have this as it was hotfixed within a week to remove this “unintended” targeting feature from the Reticle spells. No clue why they’re so hard-over on not giving this to us, but since they don’t want us to have it, I’m pretty sure we won’t be getting it anytime soon.

well the D&D drops on the death knights if using this macro

  • #showtooltip Death and Decay
  • /cleartarget
  • /cast [mod:ctrl, @cursor] Death and Decay; [@player] Death and Decay
  • /targetlasttarget
using this as a tank to pull you doing it wrong then

Haha… I saw that macro and thought you were trolling the company Blizzard. That was funny.

I hate aiming with my mouse. I use @Cursor and sometimes I throw things in funny places.

I agree that our abilities should just land all the time on our targets without having to play mini-fps and try to aim at the right spot.

Do you need to clear and retarget for that one? I think this would work:

#showtooltip Death and Decay
/cast [mod:ctrl, @cursor][@player] Death and Decay

its set up for both
need to check the macro when it come back on

Yeah, I have to say for my dh and dk I am addicted. DnD and Kyrian Decree or whatever that spell is called, so helpful. Being melee is nice because @player works, on rangers it would be so nice to be able to do that too.

Yes PLEASE! From a frost mage, this would be the best QOL change this decade.

I think it would be good to list all the specs which could benefit, please help me get the ones I miss.

Hunters: All traps, probably not flare, binding shot
MM: Volley

Mage: Blizzard, is Flamestrike gone? I’m sure arcane does something but I don’t remember what.

Druid: Efflorescence

Shaman: All totems, healing rain
Elemental: Earthquake

Disc Priest: Power Word: Barrier

Warlock: Meteor or Rain of Chaos Bolts

Anyone I am forgetting? This is bath Rita so sorry about this post being very informal, typing on my phone

An @target macro would be a huge accessibility feature. It would also help the controller support blizzard seems intent on fostering.

If you don’t have cleartarget it will keep switching targets each time you press the spell.
I use this macro - mouseover always takes priority.

#showtooltip
/cleartarget
/targetenemy
/use [@mouseover,harm,nodead][]Lightning Bolt

friendly or healing

#showtooltip
/targetfriend
/cast [target=mouseover, help, exists, nodead] Chain Heal; Chain Heal
