Figure I would ask this cause I have been noticing something that is baffling me. During Vanilla, it was not uncommon for people to use a target Jed macro for UBRS which could tell them if he was in that instance ID. With classic, a guild mate claimed it had worked the first time we saw him. But after that, it doesn’t seem to work and we did even end up with Jed in one of the runs. Is there something I am missing about this or something about the target mechanic that I am not understanding?
As far as I know /target only works when the mob is in your field of view.
If I went into SFK and /target Captain Springvale or whatever his name it wouldn’t pick it up even though I know he’s in there.
That is what I was thinking. So the question becomes if there is a way to increase that field of view or not. And just as well, where does Jed need to be standing to be targeted if the field of view can not be increased.
Right when you enter ubrs make a left turn into the little corner right next to that mob. Stay there for couple mins and use the macro.
It was a thing on pservers so you knew the rare spawn was up just reset til you target
It was a thing in Vanilla as well. Not just private server. But basically there is a clear difference between private and Classic in terms of field of view.
Testing it out a bit. Was shown to work as somebody mentioned above to target him. He stays visible the longest in that given spot for 35 seconds. Took 4 minutes 20 seconds for him to be visible upon being untargettable. So its a 5 minute rotation.
Yes, /target Jed
still works.
Immediately after entering the instance, walk up to the top of the ramp, and /target Jed
If he’s there, you will see him.
You can have multiple people try this, and reform the group around the person who has the Jed ID.
This will be quite frustrating in the coming weeks/months, as there is already groups forming who don’t know how to do this.
The group leaders are stubborn and dumb noobs who will not accommodate this. No one on private servers even ran UBRS without doing this.
Hopefully, they will not ever get any casters joining their groups if they keep refusing to do this.
I’ve had plenty of /tar NAMEs work just fine through walls and things that aren’t in LOS of the player… The big thing I’ve noticed though is that when you mark the mob with something like orange circle, the icons don’t show through walls at all it seems. Other times, they do though. It’s inconsistent.
I wouldn’t even join an UBRS that didn’t have Jed. Briarwood Reed is prebis for healers and casters so it’s dumb not to check for him.
Keep in mind, he has a 4 minute patrol route. You will not be able to target him if he is at the extreme end. I typically wait as long as 1 minute spamming my target macro before resetting the instance and trying again.
there was a farming issue with this and at some point the targeting macro options got changed.
likely this changed as introduced with out being mention
