Tapped targets

Tapped targets (where the target nameplate turns grey, meaning you can not get anything from killing it) have a serious problem, especially to new players. For instance, say you are questing in Stormsong valley, and you have some quests in Addington Shipyards. Even on a low populated server, there are lots of people farming, most of them are of the same faction, which I think is fine. The problem is, the targets that these people go after tend to get tapped, despite being of the same faction.
Back then, a way to resolve a tapped target issue, was to kill the person who had tapped your target (assuming both of you had pvp on, or were in a pvp server (or warmode)). Now, the tapping of targets using friendly players is outrageous.
Currently, how tapping of targets seems to work is, it taps targets which were attacked by the opposite faction, or a party. Why should I have to compete for quest objectives with farmers, who leave almost nothing.
This target tapping does have the potential effect of promoting low population servers more, but there is a reason why people like to stay on low populated servers, or high populated servers for that matter. People choose their server population because that is what they want to play with, like for raiding purposes, or just to enjoy the game and have less in game traffic.
Another potential reason for implementing this is to reduce multiple groups from tag teaming together to farm more, or just to prevent piggybacking of parties for help, which would be consistent with Activision / Blizzard’s current goal of reducing unfair carrying of players (notably the 90% reduced xp for players in a group with a player with disabled xp (comming in 8.2.)) This form of carrying is not very efficient, because of the already, little xp you get for killing a mob.
Is it worth hurting the new players, who are unfamiliar with the game, just to prevent exploitation? These new players are really the future of WoW, and if they get discouraged by things in the game, they will just stop playing, and obviously, stop funding WoW. That is bad for business, making it bad for the overall game.

If they’re going grey, it means opposite faction or a full five man group tagged it.

System’s fine.

The issue is not the opposite faction tapping it. The issue is with the party of 5

Huh? First off, when WoW launched it was single tap. Whoever got to it first, it was theirs and can you believe that WoW has still lasted 15 years!

You haven’t actually given any suggestions to fix this (non) issue. What do you want blizz to change? Make it impossible to group? Unlimited tapping of mobs (talk about exploits)?

With changes to it. The last time that they had that system, there were no world quests, invasions, or anything of the sort. Just daily quests.

The suggestion to fix the problem is to remove tapping for parties of 5 like that. A possible solution, to prevent lots of exploitation, is to program it such that a party of 5 which has already attacked a target, is tapped to another party of 5 of the same faction. Not solo players.

It is much better than it was 90% of the life of wow.

No they only go gray if someone of the opposite faction tags it first.

Why do you feel that is a fair solution?

If you aren’t quick enough to tap a target before someone else, that’s your own problem not everyone else’s.

The tap system is fine as it is.

Five of the same faction can tap a single mob.
If one opposite faction taps it, then you cannot.

Special and named mobs mostly have unlimited taps, and both faction taps at the same time.

I hope new players don’t dip into classic right away then, if the current tapping system is too much. I know myself, I’d go around tab target dotting things to pull more at a time and move along, but it doesn’t help people who don’t have that luxury.

Honestly, the tap system is fine. It is probably one the least important issues they should be looking to fix.

I’m all in for free for all pvp servers then. :dagger:

No male human paladin or orc warrior will escape my wrath if they so much tag a boar i was trying to get… or at least until one of them bubble hearth.

I completely support making targets attackable by same faction regardless of grouping. The problem is… there are NPC’s that are being attacked by same faction, non-pvp, and yet the enemy goes grey and is “tapped” for no apparent reason. No other faction around. Explanation?
