If I have someone who isn’t doing their role and is causing us to wipe I am going to tell them what they need to do to improve so we can continue on. If they don’t want to listen, if they be healer, dps or tank, then I don’t want to group with that person in the future. People are human and mistakes happen.
Tank being undergeared is a HEALER issue, if the healer keeps them alive then its not a problem, if YOU as a dps rip threat EVER, its YOUR fault. Threat meters exist. if you are 3k below threat and decide “screw it im gonna lightning bolt my crits not that high anyways” and then crit for 5k and rip threat YOU ARE BAD.
Plenty of players are casuals & like smaller, casual guilds that don’t have quick & easy insta-groups on-demand. Some also like more variety in grouping & aren’t horrified by playing the game outside of the brainless loot-piñata meta practiced by many of the OCD min/max guilds (who are oftentimes more toxic than any pug).
Yes, I agree, 100% of the time, if DPS is pulling threat from the tank, they are bad DPS. They should know better, even if the tank is undergeared, they should have a threat meter, and slow down. Although, I have seen warlocks double crit and maybe that is a different story.
The game is meant to be fun. If there’s a issue for you bad enough to leave the group the way I see it is that it’s for the best. If you can’t talk it out with the group, just go.
Not always. I once had a tank that wouldn’t use abilities that would generate threat and I spent more time protecting the healer then actually trying to kill mobs. That instance you did any damage or healing and the mobs would go to you over the tank and the tank didn’t use taunt either. I could get aggro off the healer and run up to the tank and the tank would just ignore me.
I was playing my mage at the time so I tried to get aggro off, and kite them to the tank, the ones I didn’t have cced. It was hectic.
Well I was more so referring to tanks, trying to play the game… not a kid, playing his dads warrior tank. haha
Yawns
did someone get a bad pug?
In Pugs. Tanks that leave 3 people hanging because they didnt like how 1 dps is playing are the worst.
The other 2 dps have basically zero sway to check anyone about anything. The healer has a little bit.
Tanks dictate terms. We all know that, that’s why even in the forums you bend over backwards to appease them theorycrafting. Aka ‘it’s always the dps fault’.
Fire is harder to kite with but not that difficult a good fire mage shouldnt have an issue.
Yeah, I’ve been recruied to tank when way undergeared for a run.
“Hey guys, gimme a little nore time to establish threat.”
“Don’t worry, we got it. Just have fun.”
Best run ever!
Or they’re good DPS.
If I’m a Rogue, I’m absolutely going to take the threat on that caster. I tank it far better than any actual ‘tank’ - armor/defense does nothing against Fireballs and I’ve got interrupts/stuns for days.
On large AE spawns - especially on heroic - tanking often isn’t an option unless your tank is ridiculously overgeared. You know what is an option? Laying down a slow field and letting them chase the AE dps.
If the mob’s at 25% health and I’m on my Hunter, I’m absolutely going to rip threat on the mob. I’ve got enough burst and slows that it will stagger slowly towards me before dying at my feet. That’s a hell of a lot better than holding off on dps so the mob can sit there pounding on the tank for an extended period of time.
On my Warlock, I can completely subtract a mob from the fight via fear-kiting. While this reduces my personal dps, you end up with a dead mob that never got a chance to do anything to the party.
Good tanks recognize tactics like these and don’t adhere to the notion “I must tank everything!”. Bad tanks just assume that if it isn’t hitting them, there must be a problem.
Alot of tanks are just bad. they don’t generate threat well at all. I can understand not being able to hold threat on dps doing 2k dps but if im pulling threat doing 800 dps thats a tank issue especially if its a longer fight.
If you are doing it with the consent of the tank and healer, you are not really “ripping aggro” you are tanking as established by the party. Dps who “rip aggro” are doing it without the party agreeing and as such are braindead.
If I feel like I’m fighting everyone in the group for threat and no one is focusing skull I usually just let the dps start tanking so they can figure it out on their own
I think you’re missing the point. Most DPS aren’t good. They only care about padding that damage meter and nothing else. If they’re not following the kill order, if they’re not using CC or repeatedly breaking CC, or if theyre laying into things before the tank gets threat then they’re the problem.
Now if they outgear the tank, they can easily downrank their spells for the run, or wait until they can find a tank with suitable gear.
Finally regarding bad tanks… yeah they’re out there (I’m probably one of’em, as I don’t tank often… But I try when I do.) Sometimes you take what you can get. I’ll let people know about my skill level. It’s on them to work as hard as I will.
running dungeons is serious business lol.
