I dont know when or why this became a thing. But tanks, you guys are moving way too much. Your job is to grab the mobs, get aggro and plant until you need to kite. Not run around like youre playing ring around the rosie with the mobs. When you do this you are making the dungeon last longer than it has to by making everyone chase after you (and guess where their ground spells should go), and depending on what kind of healer you have, you could just be wiping the group.
I have given up with this playstyle, as it has become way too common in the 20-22 bracket. I have just started leaving keys where tanks play like this.
Please stop. There is no reason for it.

when the mobs stop moving around me, I’ll stop repositioning to get them back in front of me.
until then, you can deal with it

But standing in fire is bad! Must keep on moving! It’s good to keep your blood flowing!

Go tank. You’ll understand why we move so much

Tanks should be kitting toward the next pack. You need to up your game.

Yes and that is fine.
There is a difference between small movements to account for the mobs movements and un-ending back peddling or running away. The former is expected. The latter angers your dps and wipes the group if you run with a melee healer.

theres so much crap on the ground theres not a lot of choice. Do I eat this long cast frontal or move outta the rain of fire? DO I stand in this spot that chunks me or move outta the blizzard?
Pretty easy choices usually.

I have been tanking either as main or alt since shadowlands. I have tanked up to and including +26s several seasons.
No, excessive movement is not needed.

Excessive, no. Necessary, absolutely.
There isnt a single pull this season that lets you stand still for more than 2-3 seconds at a time

Then you tank. DPS and Heals should stay in their lanes and not presume to tell tanks how to do their jobs. Especially when half of you are complaining that you are going too slow and the rest are complaining that you are going too fast.

If a group has to complain that a tank is going to slow on a constant basis then the tank needs to learn to play. A tank should know how to keep the momentum of the group at a steady pace.
I would take this line of thinking more seriously if tanks and healers didn’t presume to tell DPS how to do their jobs too.

Because when I tank (the odd time i pug) some people like to subject themselves to a position to eat a frontal

Agree, OP. I don’t do M+ at all, but I’ve been seeing this way too often in timewalking dungeons and there’s absolutely no reason for it. Running after the tank instead of actually dps’ing (not to mention them pulling trash up to the boss) just makes the runs way more stressful than they should be.

When other people’s mistakes become your problem, I think it puts you in a decent spot to recognize poor decision making.

It’s spiteful week
You’re supposed to run away from them and not waste time damaging them.
They decay and die over time on their own.
If you are damaging them, then you are wasting time.

Until I haven’t been able to spot drink in several pulls, and the tank keeps running off into the abyss while I’m standing around doing a confused John Travolta looking at my mana bar.

Torn on this one. When it works, I love the quick runs. But I do feel bad for the healer, especially in places like Mana Tombs.

Yes, tanks #1 priority should not be to anger the DPS.
Sidenote: is this the part where tanks get to say all the things DPS do that angers them?

Think it’s mostly PvP players dipping a toe into PvE.
Constantly dragging frontals into the group, no way to stay positioned behind the mobs. A lot of unnecessary death. A lot of lost DPS.
