As a guardian druid who loves tanking in RBGs, I am sad there isn’t much variety when playing RBGs. When I think of well designed tanks in PVP, I think of Leage of Legends. Their role is defined from a PVP perpective and not crossed with PVE mechanics. For those that haven’t played LoL, here is what I mean:
Tanks in PVP should:
- Run and capture flags
- Protect nodes
- Hold orbs
- Make plays in team fights
Mechanics Tanks in PVP should have are
- CC reduction/immunity
- Frequent CC
- The ability to 1v1 any class with ease (not win everytime)
- Decent to great mobility or AoE slow to control a team fight
I don’t know much about other tank specs, but as I read through the pvp talents I noticed the mechanics are there to “protect” allies as if this is a dungeon. I have some class suggestions that I think may make things more exciting:
Blood Death Knight:
Redesign decomposing aura to trail of blood: create a trail of blood around and behind you, toggle on/off - takes damage equal to 1% hp/sec, enemies take 5% hp/sec, slows enemies by 30%, healing taken increased by 20%. Can be toggled with in CC.
Protection Paladin: Since bubble is the defining identity of paladin and can’t be used with an objective add a talent that replaces blessing of protection with a CC immunity and movement speed bonus, short cd.
Brewmaster Monk: Has some great PVP talents, but needs a few tweaks:
- Nimble Brew 1 min CD
- Wind Waker removes CC at 2 stacks instead of 3
- Buff Hot Trub Dmg
- If this doesn’t exist, maybe a buffed auto attack after every dodge.
I can’t think of anything for Prot War or Venganve DH, but I’d love to hear what others think of these tweaks. I don’t expect these ideas to break arena, only to increase their viability in RBGs/BGs
