Tanking question

I have a tanking question.
What do you do when you are tanking and everyone is pulling mobs randomly all over the room or runs ahead pulling more than your group can handle? I have tried asking please let me pull or at least run to me when you do pull so I can grab aggro instead of trying to run in 4 different directions trying to save the group. It is very aggravating & discouraging.

Basic rule: if you get aggro and you’re not a tank, run to the tank.

In that scenario, I let everyone die. Then find a new group after they kick me. After the debuff time runs out of course.

First ask them to stop, but seems you already tried that. Second would be to utilize the Vote to Kick tool. Be sure to place the reason in the description so people know why, exactly, you’re starting a vote.

Had a rough SoB Heroic last night where a Boomkin was pulling at least a dozen mobs before the tank. They were eventually booted, so don’t worry, others may feel the same way you do.

I take it as a sign that people want to go fast and I pull to match while maintaining aggro. Learning how to mass-pull effectively and efficiently is part of tanking, especially if you want to push M+ keys, so go with the flow and skill-up.

Do so at a place that matches the group’s (including your) ability to deal with multiple packs though. Like, three groups that have two casters with kill casts in each pack in a mid-damage party of ranged DPS won’t end well.

If they can’t handle it because they pulled more than they can dps down or dont pull to the tank, let them die.

Right click : leave instance.

What content? If it’s not M+ then just roll with it. It doesn’t matter unless you’re dying/wiping.

You protect the healer, let the dps tank if they insist.

Make a Macro,

"If you pull and don’t redirect aggro to me or bring add to me, you will tank it. Please note, if this causes the group to wipe, you are the problem not me. If you want me to speed up or slow down, simply type “Faster” or “Slower”. "

This way if their ADHD kicks in, they are at fault not you. I tend to adjust speed by how well the healer is keeping people and myself up and how fast mobs are dropping. If I am healing more then I should, I slow down or if the mobs are living for ever, I slow down.

In the end, if you are not having fun, leave. They need you, you not them.

Step 1: ask them to stop
Step 2: if they don’t stop, tell them “you pull it, you tank it” and stop taunting

I let them die. If the healer heals them I whisper the healer (or just plain say it in group) to not heal them.

And I let them die. Repeatedly if need be.

Sometimes I try to vote kick and if it’s a really bad situation I leave after saying something like “I’m not here to be stressed out trying to keep idiots alive, good luck.”

Tanks pull. Or hunters pull with misdirect. Or any other of a million PREVIOUSLY AGREED UPON pull methods, but otherwise, tanks pull.

I know what I can handle and what I probably can’t. I know what is likely going to be misery for the healer. I try to avoid that.

So I let them die. Learn or keep dying.

You can either throw your hands up and quit…

Or use the chaos as a chance to learn and grow.

You’ll never know the limits of your ability if you never test yourself.

Sometimes chaos and stress can force you to adapt and overcome.

There’s no better feeling than wrangling in a pull that has gone completely haywire. Especially if it would’ve been a wipe for sure for other tanks but you managed to clean it up through sheer will and skill.

The only exception to this is when they inevitably peel for the healer.

Just run past and let them deal with it. They clearly have enough faith in themselves to tank for you as a DPS.

If they survive then I’ll let them do it again as I run ahead and pull more myself. If they die and get the team killed, I’ll gently and politely remind them that they need me more than I need them. That gentle reminder is usually enough to humble them and keep them in line for the rest of the run.

It means youve been oppressive and tyrannical, as tanks are often wont to be, and the other classes have risen up to overthrow you.

Assuming it’s in a normal/TW dungeon I think it’s fun to try and get the aggro back.
If the group doesn’t rage about it, just laugh it off and try again.

People get too obsessed with perfect and 2 mins dungeon runs.

Just have fun with it.

I continue to tank what im tanking. They have 2 choices. Tank it themselves, or run them all back to me so i can passively get aggro through my cleave.

Im not gonna a pinball for someone elses stupidity.

And normally in leveling dungeons, i pull everything ahead of time so they cant do it. Plus the extra xp from mob count doesn’t hurt

Here’s what you do. Stand still.

Sounds silly doesn’t it? Let me explain.

After so long of playing this game dps players should know by now that if they get aggro they should take the mobs to the tank so you can pick them up. Tell people at the start of the run “If you accidentally pull, please run your mobs to the tank. Run them into my AoE.”

It’s not your job to chase after dps that run around like idiots trying to get away from a mob they pulled. It’s also not your job to mess up your mob control to run to a dps that chooses to solo that mob because they’re too lazy to run it to you.

Let them come to you. If they don’t and they die, then maybe next time they’ll watch their positioning.

As for dps pulling ahead and pulling extra packs on purpose, just stop AoEing. If they try to pull more than you’re comfortable with; simply don’t attack their mobs. Tab target through the mobs you have aggro on using single target abilities. Let them die THEN pick up the aggro.

These impatient dps players need to learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them. If we keep fixing their mistakes for them, they’ll keep making them. Let them die over and over and over again if you have to. They’ll eventually figure it out.

And if they give you attitude about it, leave. You’re a tank, you’ll find another group a lot quicker than they will. No sweat off your back. You don’t play to be harassed.

If they pull it , they can either tank it , or run it to me and if i can pull aggro off ill take it . If its an interuptable mob , the puller is responsible for interupting and bringing to me . Im not moving unless i have to .
