Tanking is too boring and unrewarding. When wil they fix that?

Title. what’s the point of being tank and putting myself out there if people are so mean, and the rewards are basically nonexistent?

Is it that it’s too boring or that folks can be demeaning?

If it’s really just boring, try solo tanking a dungeon on mythic 0 and see how far you get. Or push your key until you start failing timers.

I can appreciate the demeaning sentiment. As a tank main who primarily pugs this season, been dunked on for sure. Most of the time, after making peace with it, I will reflect on the “feedback” and see what I can improve. Though, sometimes it’s just another player’s defense mechanism that they seem to use to help them rationalize the bricked key. Sometimes the critical feedback is warranted, though perhaps in a more constructive way.

Anyway, hope you find a groove to get in and help you enjoy tanking.

Most people who find it boring would rather DPS and pump big numbers. Is it boring? Or are you just coming in 3rd or 4th on the meters?

Tanking is not boring. You could argue that it’s not fun sometimes, but boring? Nah.

It’s very boring lmao that’s why we have a severe tank shortage wat man ?

I don’t find it boring at all. You are front and center in all the action.

I do agree though you get a lot of abuse from the other players when things don’t go smoothly or fast enough.

Well the good news is that many tanks don’t find it boring and you don’t need to tank if you don’t enjoy it.

However, what do you think would make tanking more exciting? In what way could it be more rewarding? You haven’t really given any insight into that.

If you are finding tanking boring then it’s one of two scenarios: Either you aren’t pulling enough to actually push yourself to your limits or you aren’t doing hard enough content. Doing the large first pull in NW, or any other amount of dangerous pulls at a decent key level, is anything but boring. If you still find it boring after that, maybe you just don’t enjoy tanking. Plenty of people do. The problem is not to make it “less boring” for those that don’t enjoy it, but to make it more welcoming and appealing to people who may enjoy it but are put off by the added responsibility.

The ‘rewards’ for tanking are near instant invites to groups. I barely pug keys anymore, but the difference in invite frequency on any of my tank alts vs a DPS alt are night and day.

People being mean is a valid complaint, but at the same time it’s a video game. Who cares if people are mean, just ignore them. They literally do not matter in the slightest and you likely will never encounter them again. This is coming from someone who for a very long time was put off from tanking despite my interest in it because of the same concerns. Once that mindset shift set in I actually allowed myself to tank and to grow in experience.

Tanking is the only fun role IMO

It’s the terrible skill/attitude of DPS and “Healers” that make tanking suck

Not gonna lie, I’m much more experienced and skilled in PvE than I am in PvP due to doing PvP infrequently, but I feel better doing unrated PvP than I do drudging through goals in PvE sometimes.

With how frequently my PvE friend group decides to unsub, I’ve been kinda tempted to just play one character in PvP and keep it up enough in PvE to play with them, but otherwise focus on PvP. :dracthyr_comfy_sip:

Tanks should have reward satchels for all content

I think some tanks might be more boring than others but I wouldnt say tanking is boring. As far as feeling rewarding I can agree to some point, I wish tanks could push more damage as that feels rewarding to me.

To be fair though, that is a subjective opinion. I hate warrior tanking, but love Pally and Druid. Someone else might love warrior and hate the two I enjoy. Tanking itself is only “boring” if you are not pumping meters and in on the action. Not everyone has the patience, or even the situational awareness to tank swap, kite, turn a boss, or soak in for a huge cleave. They likely die alot and mistake boredom with failure.

This is why you pvp as a tank. Way more fun and rewarding (when you win). I got my sparks quest done in no time this afternoon! Shuffles are hit and miss, but world pvp is sooo funny! I’ve won so many 1-on-1’s against rets and rogues (Second Wind trumps most melee dps) XD
