Tanking inconsistency

My monk has been a healer since level 10, currently level 70,but i just started trying out brewmaster in random dungeons.

The problem is, in one run ill feel super tough and tanky, and have zero problems. In the next, I’ll be getting flattened in seconds.

Is this just a scaling issue with the dungeons or what? Im using the same build and rotation and keeping brew up, but there seem to be some dungeons i just cannot survive in as a tank.

Mainly depends on your healer at that point to be honest.

Til you get into the late levels you’re almost entirely relying on your healers. That’s why many of us level new monks as heals or dps. It’s frustrating as hell, especially when you have those GOGOGO speedfreaks that want to pull everything all the time.

In addition to depending on the healer I’d say it also depends which dungeon, considering your level bracket. Lots of magic damage or dungeons that feature
a large number of trash mobs (death by a thousand cuts) could also be the issue.

Last I leveled a monk was during WoD-to-Legion, after the stat squish, and it made that character very squishy, but the dungeon I recall going ‘well damn’ was Magister’s Terrace (not TW) during some weird period where low level dungeons were scaled to be deadly.

TL;DR - it gets better, I’d suggest learning the tank ropes once you get to 100 (that way you’ll have all your talents etc)

Having tanked a bit on lower levels, it is kinda brutal and hard on your healers. Threat isn’t an issue but living certainly is.

Having crucial things like celestial fortune and mastery so high up (70 and 78 respectively) means we’re more fragile.

Well, that and you can’t really purify until 45 and light brewing without letting ironskin drop during prolonged pulls.

I had similar experiences to you in lower level dungeons - bearable in places like Dire Maul but getting destroyed in Blackrock Depths.

I’m currently 72 - going to wait until 78-80 ish, get some mastery gear and try again. Bob and Weave should help too.
