So I stopped playing over a year ago, and just came back. I’m wanting to come back in more of a social playstyle by helping people do mythic+ 15s. I’m wondering, since I’m kind of out of the loop in the current meta, what would be the best tank to “carry” people in just 15s?
All tanks are super strong in 15s right now.
Bear or DK or Paladin would be your quickest
DK is really strong and you can deathgrip stubborn casters standing in sanguine pools.
Once geared, blood dk IMO. Yes I’m biased.
I’m also almost fully self sufficient with mistakes and not running optimal covenant, conduits, talents…
Damage is pretty good for the spec now. We’ve been kinda poop s1 and start of s2 though. We’re just now meta.
Bear is also really good once geared because every couple minutes you can do a monster pull and just light everything up.
Deathgip them mid cast for style points and to a lesser extent to interrupt that spell cast.
This is the way!
If you are pugging, you can’t go wrong with being a paladin for interrupts. So many interrupts.
Default any tank that’s geared.
Playing Bear, Prot War, and Blood DK I feel like Bear wins in pure speed, Blood wins in pure damage, and Warrior’s more fun.
lmao.
Paladin has arguably the best toolkit to carry others with the amount of healing you can save others with, stuns, damage, bop, interupts etc etc.
BDK is capable of soloing content and brining others along for a ride.
Bear is capable of mass pulling mobs during incarn and being unkillable (the more you pull the better you survive) and paris well with uncapped aoe classes for huge pulls/damage (sv hunter/destro/demo lock) but they do suffer outside of incarn.
Prot warrior while being F tier ranked is actually in a weird place - you cant ‘solo’ any content but you are a jack of all trades, master of none. With the recent buffs to survivability, tier set, amazing synergy with necro banner and borrowed power, you can really fit the role of a solid tank that buffs others decently.
VDH i dont know much about but i know that aoe silence is op.
If i had to pick a tank that can perform out of the box id 100% pick pally.
Why nobody remembers Brewmaster exist? lol
They exist, but there are better options imo
I have found brewmasters, Blood dks, and paladins to be quite easy.
Druids with 4 piece and legendary can be decent.
I found prot warrior to be the hardest, and a weak aura to help maintain ignore pain damage mitigation (it’s unintuitive that you can stack ignore pain for 200% of your health) and the buff should have it’s own bar imo like stagger does for brewmasters).
I would say for paladin was the easiest. Just because of the healing you can do for yourself and others and the great passive damage mitigation from just doing your rotation. And it doesn’t sacrifice offensive potential like druids/warriors do for there rotations if they want more damage. Paladin also has the amazing potential in mythic plus because avenger’s shield interrupts enemies and there are plenty of stuff to interupt in mythic plus especially for bigger pulls. For carrying others Pally is good if your team mates aren’t good at interrupting.
Thanks for the answers guys, this is really good news. I was maining a blood DK back in the beginning of SL when I was still playing, but at that time they were the worst tank spec. Crazy how now they are good lol. What brought them up from bottom tier to top tier?
Tier set plus bis legendary for mythic plus fixes most specs. As well as double legendaries.
Brewmaster is a great example of this, people sleep on them, but you heal as much as a dk and do as much damage on big aoe pulls, their tier 4 is broken for m+.
I mean if Blizz remembered them for tuning im sure others would.
You get a tank that can easily make a healers life a nightmare if they dont deal with stagger damage correctly. They dont have amazing heals to save a group. They have a hard cc and ring of peace and an aoe stun.
You bring a monk tank for the melee damage buff. You dont bring a monk tank to hard carry others in m+.
Yea A good player can be a good monk. But as far as carry potential goes for 15s I think other classes do it better. Paladins imo have good damage mitigation and cds to help save/heal others. And it’s just really powerful to make up for team mates who aren’t doing certain mechanics. Especially interrupting. Brewmasters can be good, but carry potential is less imo.
Prot Paladin easily has the strongest carry potential and by a great order of magnitude.
You can literally handle all the priority interrupts for your group, between Avengers Shield, Divine Resonance and your base interrupt.
You have huge heal bombs to heal the people eating mechanics.
You have BoP, Sac and Hands to further help people eating mechanics.
You have good DPS to carry bad players.
And really mobility aint horrible with 45 second horsey(I use Nitro Boost too tho).
Paladin is a carry machine.
My main tank is Blood DK and while its really good, its also really selfish, as in, I can carry myself well but I cant do a whole lot to make up for a bad group.
This 100%.
A really good BDK will be able to keep themselves alive in 15s, and you could carry your healer that way. The DPS with the kyrian meta build is also insane. As a tank, you can pull around your own cooldowns, so tank is the easiest role to carry others with in my mind.
