Tanking For Gold

That seems ridiculous. Also, I don’t powerlevel people (ie, if someone needs a hand with cyclonian, i just go help) I’m literally just charging for lowbie content to cover repairs and make some G for my time. I don’t charge for content I am progressing on or earning gear from.

But people don’t care about the details. They see a tank advertising to charge for a run and say “WTF YOU A-HOLE. … charging to play the game??” and it never ends.

If I were to hypothetically hire a tank to run an instance, they do not get any loot.

I’ve never charged for runs. But as I’ve been re-leveling on a PvE server, I’ve had many offer to pay me. I’ve gladly accepted honestly, gold is gold! Even after warned them that I’m fury prot for guild runs.

I think Tanking for gold or reserves is totally fair for three reasons:

  1. Tanks are in high enough demand that multiple groups at a time are in desperate need of them. As a tank, why not opt for the most beneficial run.
  2. If you expect your dungeon tank to spec Prot, but he has to raid as DPS, those weekly talent respecs are expensive.
  3. Pug tanking as become far to stressful thanks to pug DPS pulling for the tank and then wanting to blame the tank for not “keeping” aggro. Not to mention the already exsisting responsibilities of usually being the dungeon navigator and the pull strategist of the group. Typically a higher stress job demands incentives. This is also one of the leading reasons there are fewer tanks to begin with.

With that said, rolling need on everything is definitely too much.

How butt hurt would you be spending 20g on a tank & they suck

In my scenario, I don’t. I pass on everything except for green trash (even epic BOEs).

Ive already done the content I charge for, I don’t need any of it, so my fee is for repairs and time, and the content is for the group.

But again, people never stop to ask stuff like that, they just see the “tanking X for #g” and label you a troll.

Im closer to the lame camp. Take tips np. Especially when I see other tanks reserving beforehand. Cmon tanks: those mobs dont deep themselves, and you sure as hell aint doing all the work.

There is so much else to do with your time. 20g in long run for the time sunk into a no loot run is…nothing.

Thank god my uncle rolled a tank and i rolled as healer. We been questing and doing dungeons together up til now (now lvl 50). I’m spec for DPS but I’m still godly in dungeons at healing.

Y. I dont want anyone buying how I play, either. My fun then at stake, and there are other things besides WoW for fun at that point.

in retail, you don’t have to lift a finger in a bought run, you are 110% carried, in Classic, you cant carry a whole group, you need to sell the group, not just one role.

I did not comment on your specific scenario.

Granted, I personally find it tacky, but I don’t find there to be an inherent objective problem with it.

You know how tanks get a bonus loot bag in retail because there’s always a shortage? Here you go

I will pay 1 copper just to kick them in the face.
The only thing they are entitled to is a place in the group just like healer or dps.

That is exactly the kind of myopic response I would expect from a dps class as selfish and solo oriented as a Warlock.

I would rather not run a dungeon at all that capitulate to blackmail.

There is ZERO chance I would ever group with a tank like this.

Do you pay for Xmutes or mage portals? Do you tip crafters for combines? Tanking is a service.

I tank runs for guildies and friends for free. In the rare event I’m pugging, it’s generally going to be Strat Live and I’m going to reserve sellables.

I do not want to PuG LBRS with 5head melee who aggro 5 packs and get us chain CC’d or blown up by blastwaves because the healer can’t dispel.

unless the tank is outgearing the instance there no way in hell am paying. If you made your group wipe you should pay .

they check all the boxes

Answered your own question there. demand dictates supply

Usual alternatives of join a guild or roll a tank yourself. Later when there are more tanks, it’ll be guilds selling carries to random people like they do in retail. This video here tells why healers might be worth some gold to:

Supply demand!!!

Edit: here’s an old one for tanks too:
