Tanking For Gold

I’m glad you brought up the leather!

The leather is indicative of the fact that when I’m not running dungeons, I’m farming for gold and/or materials out in the world as DPS. It’s also indicative of the fact that as a general rule, I dislike having to tank.

That does not mean I don’t maintain a second set of full plate with defense stats as my guild’s OT.

But, it does bring to light the fact that for every dungeon I join and have to tank with no guarantee of monetary reward, there is also opportunity cost.

I don’t need gear out of these places, I’m already in full pre-BiS, so why am I there? In the 40 minutes to an hour it took us to get to Baron, what else could I have accomplished instead? If you get a tank who needs gear still, then he absolutely shouldn’t charge. If someone has a reason to be doing the content anyway and is still charging on top of that, it’s double dipping, and its scummy.

But if you’re asking me to come tank this thing for you, when I could be doing something else to advance my character in that time, or even level one of my alts? Yea, there’s going to be a price tag attached, and if someone refuses? It’s really no skin off my back one way or another.
