Tank or Healer more difficult?

Primarily for M+.

Personally, I doubt dps can be tossed in the “most difficult” battle.

Tank or Heal most difficult? In pugs/organized groups, mostly in general.

you’re comparing two completely different roles :woman_shrugging:

I’m going to go with healer though, because they’re responsible for fixing everyone else’s mistakes.

reality is, in an organized group where everyone is playing well, dps is the most challenging.

Hey, it takes effort to always stand in the fire.

It really depends. But generally from easiest to hardest it would look like this

Prot Warrior < Evoker/Rdruid < Tank < Healer < DPS.

Oh yes, the classic “my role is the most difficult, yours is baby easy mode.” Never gets old.

There is no skill to a tank. It is quite literally stand there and get hit by things, no buttons required. Healers take a little more REACTIVE gameplay and truly highlight the genius of people like myself.

Well considering tanks don’t need healers or dps in m+ I’m gonna say dps is hardest in m+ … in pvp healers for sure.

I’ve never really tanked so can’t compare, but healing can be fairly difficult depending on your group.

Healer imo.

DPS can use abilities to reduce their damage intake and help the healer.

They don’t.

lmao.

Tanks seem to have a pretty high skill ceiling to me, but maybe healers are harder? Who knows.

Think so? I’ve done all the roles around +20 and I still find tanking the hardest. It’s basically the same as dps except you have other things to worry about. Knowing when to use defensives and active mitigation isn’t something to be ignored.

DPS I’ve always just found easy… when it’s coordinated it’s even easier since you know exactly when to use your CDs and doing big damage is simplified.

Right…

It’s very easy to kill other players as a tank if you’re not careful…

Probably because you’re just bad.

At high level keys, tank is just DPS that can afford to get hit by more AOE/swirlies.

Depends on the group. Got a bunch of DPS that won’t move out of fire? Healing is harder. Got a hunter to two with barrage and growl on? Tanking is harder.

Speaking as a tank, unequivocally healer.

Most of the tank’s difficulty is front-loaded prior to the dungeon; if you know the routes and you’re proactive about mistakes you’re going to be fine. It is perhaps the most intimidating role, in that your failure will be extremely noticable upfront, but in terms of actually fulfilling the role in challenging content, healer is far harder.

Tank.

Honestly healer is pretty easy IMHO. Either your DPS are interrupting what they need to interrupt (in which case any competent healer can do the rest) or they aren’t and not even the best healer is going to have much of an impact on the wipefest than ensues.

If you’re pushing high keys every role is difficult.

People really underestimate the effort that goes into being a GOOD dps player in high keys.

I have tanked on multiple classes and healed on multiple classes. Tanking is easier. Healing is more difficult.

Tanking does have a full plate of things to do, however. You must know routes, update your known route once a better route becomes known, you must know how fast to pull, how many enemies is too many to aggro, what to face away from the group, and when to pop your defensives. It is not for the faint of heart.

Healing, on the other hand, requires lightning fast reflexes. You are constantly faced with having to scramble to heal people up from 5% health when they get hit by something they’re not supposed to. People stand in crap, get hit by Spiteful adds, which hit like a truck, and stand in cleaves. All of that hurts, a lot. Often times this will happen during heavy aoe damage on your group, to which you are pulled in two different directions: single target healing to save the lowest hp player, or get more hps out on the group with aoe heals. You must make these decisions at the drop of a hat, all while dodging mechanics, dispelling people, and dealing damage. There have been times where if I am dpsing, that puts me a half a GCD away from saving someone. It’s that down to the wire sometimes, so knowing when it’s safe to dps is also important. It is incredibly stressful sometimes.

Tanking is easier in my opinion, especially Prot Warrior. Once you know the routes, which isn’t particularly difficult, and when you need to send your CDs, it’s mostly just gearing and optimizing. Notably in Pugs, you have a lot of control over how the run goes and can solo save pulls.

Healers have a lot out of their hands and a lot of encounters are just objectively difficult healing checks.
