I’m curious if theirs a reason we don’t have an @tank, @healer, or @dps1,2,3 modifiers for macros. I’ve come across quite a few work arounds for players like hunters and rogues wanting to optimize their misdirection/tricks of the trade. Some use a /run script using UnitGroupRolesAssigned to get the name of the tank and having that same script update a second macro with that tanks name. Some just constantly modify a macro using party1,2,3,4,5 wherever the tank is in the party. With the @party1 and so on modifiers already in the game, what’s the reason @tank isn’t?
Won’t work in raid. Too many of each role. In fact the whole role things only exists in queued content, so this wouldn’t work on m+ either
since I have healed quite a bit over the years, I use the clique addon for mouseover healing. I also use this for a couple of other abilities.
with my hunter and rogue, I just set up shft-h for misdirect/tricks.
of course, this runs in line with using native raid frames showing class colors and arranged by roll.
i will echo what others have said, there can be multiple players fulfilling a singular role.
There is a party sort addon for arenas to force the healer and dps into specific party slots for this reason. I’m not sure if it works in m+ though.
I do know a few healers who always insist on the tank being the party leader and therefore (I assume) @party1.
