Shamans should be able to tame aka control different elementals found throughout the zones of warcraft just like hunters can tame animals. Thats all.
Idk if I want shamans do be a pet class. I think it would be cool though to add more glyphs to our elemental cooldowns. It would be awesome if we could use the raging tempest models or the glacial tidestorm as a pet
With the existence of light and death elementals, I question what elementals even are at this point. They used to be spirits of the physical plane outside of the elemental spirit of ‘spirit’ or the wilds.
Recent lore makes some of this questionable.

No we should not be that is why blizzard nerfed our wolves is so that we would not be considered a pet class.
i dont want pet class. i want zappy zap lava stuff.
