I’ve hated the junk as currency model since it was added but it’s only gotten worse. Blizz, is it not enough that we put in the effort to level our renown to get access to cosmetic items? Do we really need to then farm low drop rate garbage to buy the items with? Who thinks this is fun?
I’ve put off buying renown unlocked cosmetic until now because it’s just so obnoxious to figure out what all garbage items I need to buy the stuff, what alts have how many of the garbage items, and then were to farm the garbage items I don’t have enough of yet. So, I didn’t really know until now ridiculous the drop rate is one some of this junk. Tuft of Primal Wool? Annoying and needed for like half the Tuskarr cosmetics. Tallstrider Sinew? Absolutely ridiculous and needed five at a time for, what, all the Tuskarr backpacks?
Don’t do this again in future expansions. This is double dipping on the time we put into unlocking these items. I hate to use that ‘you don’t respect our time’ line, but yeah, this doesn’t respect our time.
Also, the garbage as currency really needs to go. What would have been so wrong with just a Dragon Isle Supplies price on the cosmetics we unlock access to? Seriously. Think of the dev time that could have been saved by not adding these idiotic junk combination prices and then adding the junk to loot tables. Do we not already have enough currencies? Why do we also need stuff like Aquatic Jaws and Bear Butts littering our bags to buy stuff with too?
We should trade Blizzard for our monthly fee four twigs, a bird’s nest, two copper wires, an inch of rubber tubing, 3 cubic inches of wire mesh and $7.65, but no bills over $2 allowed.
I hadn’t thought on this in awhile; I realized I do not like it either. Dragon Isles supplies sounds good to me.
I am tired of having no room in my bags just to hold all the garbage just incase I need it for some item. We already have crafters why do the NPCs need to be as well?
There are over 30,000 sinews listed on the AH. Are you seriously suggesting that some cabal got together with THIRTY MILLION gold to throw around and decided to corner the market in… this?
Why does this seem so out of the question for you? Like 30M gold is “a lot”?? The people gaming the AH make 30M a month, if not more.
Have you ever reset a market in the AH? There are tell-tales and they’re alllll over the Tallstrider Sinew. It could be as many as 2 or 3 people, but some one-to-three people are ABSOLUTELY controlling the market on this item.
You’re naive if you don’t think so.
Watch an item long enough and you can see it happen in real-time. It’s glaringly obvious.
Tallstrider sinew, an uncommon drop from various tallstrider mobs, is a core currency for a large number of 10.0 rep vendor cosmetics (on top of a few other uses). Large amounts of them are needed to actually buy the “unlocked” rewards.
However, tallstriders are not something I encounter naturally while playing the game. No world quest or event targets them. At best they are an occasional bycatch, but this only provides a trickle of sinew. So, after completing lengthy renown grinds, I end up farming a resource that I’m not accumulating naturally from play. And in the end, my patience gave out and I purchased what I needed from the AH.
But this immediately raises another question. If I, with no life, was struggling to gather enough of this resource, how can such large quantities of it be appearing on the AH? Maybe there’s some source I’m missing? Or maybe some other people really, really enjoy hunting these mobs more than I have?
But my attention comes to a little spot of two on the plains where, from time to time over the course of the expansion (especially earlier), there has been a squad camped over what appears to be degenerate hyperspawn, farming tallstriders 24x7 for weeks at a time. Just eyeballing the speed of kills and persistence of the effort, it’s easy for me to believe that the vast majority of the sinew on the AH comes from these camps.
Which then begs a question: what is the design intent here with sinew? Is that sort of degenerate (perhaps even botted) gameplay being deliberately encouraged and rewarded here? Was it, along with bottled pheromones, an attempt at creating a group playstyle that never got advertised and sort of fell flat on its face? Did I just (out of ignorance, impatience or quirky personal tastes) miss some activity or behavior the devs were expecting of me?
(anyway, that’s the longwinded version of my grumpy little quip above)
When an item that should be 5g, is instead (sic) 900g … and you need, literally, hundreds of these items to acquire all the things they unlock … then yes, it lends itself to the purchase of a Token.
I once decided to give it a go farming them. After a couple hours and 2 or 3 sinews later, I quickly realized that ain’t happening. I gave it the good old college try. The drop rate is simply too low. So for the vast majority of people, it’s gonna be a case of "buy it off the AH at a few hundred gold per (IDK how much they are these days since I gave up) or “tough luck those cosmetics you “unlocked” aren’t actually unlocked for you, lmao”.
It would be one thing if these stupid things dropped off a variety of mobs people encounter in everyday questing, but that’s simply not the case. You have to go out of your way to farm these mobs and the mob density is low and spread out across the Ohnaren plains. This combined with the ridiculously low drop rate is a recipe of extreme scarcity.
Exactly. I don’t care, say I wear a tin foil hat, but Blizzard keeps the bots in business by refusing to make gold worthless.
Bots fill a need. What’s the need? Gold. Why do we need gold? To play every aspect of this game.
Why do we need consumables? They could tune the fights to beat the bad guys without them. Why do we need the BMAH and Naxx gear? Put Naxx 40 and old ZG back in the game. Content should never be removed.
Downing mythic raid bosses and dungeons, getting to exalted, running a legacy raid a hundred times, etc is all the barrier this game needs. It doesn’t need the gold barrier. Only the bots need that.
