Decided to fiddle around with hellcaller destro lock. don’t really know what I’m doing so I slap on the single-button assistant and go to a target dummy.
Go through all the talents, pick the ones that seem the most fun and useful, start spamming the SBA on the dummy, 900k dps
go to archon, copy paste the top build, try again. 1.6mil dps.
what on earth is this disparity? Why even have talent trees at all if the wrong picks will screw up your damage to this degree?
SBA, and you not knowing how to play mostly.
Get better at the game and the “disparity” will go away for the most part.
Don’t use the SBA, just take a lil’bit of time and learn how these things work. Especially if you are going to go to both a website for a guide and spend time at some dummies.
I can only speak for what I play and that’s the ret pally. There are talents on the tree that are totally cooked and ignored. One talent does a small heal for standing in the consecration. It heals like 5k a tick. It’s fricken hilarious. It doesn’t scale either. Totally dead node.
ostensibly to adjust the playstyle of your character to your liking. Like, would you rather use a seperately controlled pet or go petless? Do you want the big slow casting fireball that hits like a truck or do you want to run around spawning portals that pewpew things. Ideally spending all your talent points should be exactly equal dps no matter how you spend them. That’s not realistic but we should strive to get as close as we can to that.
Different talent builds do different things. The build you take for full AoE, a little bit of AoE, high mobility and pure ST fights are all a little bit different as Destro.
The DPS disparity is just you not knowing how to play. Not really a talent issue.
It ticks at 0.9. What is that, 13 ticks over 12 seconds. 60k ish healed over that time out of a pool of millions of hp. It’s literally worthless. Help yourself if you think it’s doing any good.
I have many different loadouts on many characters. It is not an illusion of choice. MoP talent choices sucked and lead to the heavy borrowed power systems that I also hated.
Umm… copy pasting the best set up has been here forever… this idea of talent trees really nudges towards the general player base that like to fiddle around and don’t care to sweat out the last bit of dps.
The Cata MoP talent system was better for just winging it or taking what you felt like you wanted, since more than likely you could probably guess what was best since there was only 6 rows, there was effectively only 6 choices to make unless a different talent row interacted with a different one.
The Tree talent system is a lot better for fine tweaking, it’s easy to take a point out of something here and there to something that you can make use of because lets be honest, not everyone is going to use things a certain way for the entire house of cards to make sense, but I do think they could do better when it comes to having less “filler” skills and capstones that actually feel impactful, which maybe they’ll be doing with the Apex talents, but right now are hit or miss depending on class/spec
The Cata ones? Where you picked a spec had a straight line that was your core and you had to put like 36(?) points in before you could off spec points?
