So we get this new talent tree system that everyone wants. They omitted details but joy joy, This is something to happy about right? They were very vague on how we will earn talent points. They never tied it to leveling or grinding. Which leads to…
What happens to the talent tree in 10.1? They need to add a hook like they always do right?
In the last several X-Packs some borrowed power, or expansion of some borrowed power kept us grinding away. If they are done with borrowed powers, like they said, I see an expansion of talent tree’s as a logical conclusion. 10.1 gives you two new rows. 10.2 maybe another row and some branches. So on and so on.
11.0 comes around and they contract some powers for… reasons. Add more talents for us to grind away at.
So while we didn’t get borrowed powers by name, the talent tree will serve the borrowed powers purpose under the guise of a mostly accepted talent tree.
Or maybe I’m just looking for a conspiracy where there is none. I’ve been left jaded by the last couple of expansions.

We’ll see when alpha rolls around, but Ion specifically said that they’re focusing on more permanent cross-xpac systems in place of xpac-specific systems, so it’s probably just plain old talents for the most part.
Not in the Dev talk. They did not say that. I don’t know who wrote that on Wowhead or what their source was, but it was not the devs on the announcement.
It looks interesting honestly. Also I saw the convoke icon on the druid tree they used to highligh it which is interesting.

They wrote it in the article they posted a link to in the reveal thread and it’s mentioned on the website.
You’ll get a talent point per level unless they decide to change it.
Full Dev talk about talent system pulled from blizz website. Nowhere does it say anything about how we get points or tying them to leveling.
Another UI intensive project we’ve been working on is an update to the Talent system. We wanted to look at it once more and find ways to provide players with more choice in shaping their character’s abilities. Currently, as you level up, you receive new spells and skills, but that progression and ordering is entirely predetermined. So, we started looking at creating a system that would provide players with a wider set of options.
One of these ideas that we returned to was that of trees. In this case, it’s actually two trees. One tree focuses on class utility while the other focuses on specialization and the expression of your role whether that’s doing damage, tanking, or healing. We want choosing your specialization to be important and want to make sure that when you choose it, it affects the tree in some way.
When you look at the new tree, you’ll notice the class side will have some abilities filled out for free to get you started off in the spec you’ve chosen, but then you’ll have your first point to spend in the class tree which could be something related to that spec or it could be something from elsewhere in the class.
We wanted to make sure that the new system allows players to take combinations of spells and abilities that may not have been possible in the game before. This opportunity also allowed us to inject more art and fantasy into the actual Talent UI itself.
I doubt it’s bowered power but it’s surely going to be meaningless in the long run. We’ll be doing MoP style trees regardless. 8 talents you pick based on xyz situation.
Did you REALLY have to make a thread about this after you already plagued another thread with this drivel
It’s just a talent tree, man. They’re moving away from expansion-only borrowed power systems that get dumped when the next expansion comes around.
The talent tree, by definition, is part of your character, is not borrowed power, they can change some % here and there, but is yours, borrowed power are the covenant abilities, the weapons in Legion, and the Heart of azeroth and azerite armor in BFA.
This expansion wont have any borrowed power nor grinding system (for now…)

When the hook was new tier sets and stronger gear there wasn’t a problem. So what’s the problem?
How else do you expect to acquire new talent abilities while leveling if not for talent point acquisition during that process? It wouldn’t make any sense at all to design it any other way.
Not sure if that’s it, but this interview worries me since they said their wasn’t going to be any borrowed power in the main trailer.
“You’re going to be seeing an advancement to the renowned system that we used in Covenants [Shadowlands], which we think is a really cool way to set up a reputation in a way that feels fresh for World Warcraft,” Jeremy Feasal says.
In name only. I guarantee there will be a grind for talent points. Then they’ll add more every patch so you will have something to grind.

This is so silly and makes no sense.
This isn’t worrying. If the next iteration of the covenant system leaves behind things like abilities, conduits, and any form of power advancement, but they are instead a means to get new cosmetics or see different stories, it’s fine. Any sort of “Dragonflight ability” shows they didn’t learn from Shadowlands, though.
