So, I have been looking to get back into Raiding after seeing the latest raid numbers and seeing that both Elemental and Enhancement shamans are running currently neck and in neck DPS wise. Also hearing that Enhancement shamans are also being looked at more. So, I have been hitting IcyVeins and the other sites to see what is being recommended. I have to say I am more than a bit confused. So here is currently what I am running and please tell me if I should change anything or if an argument can be made that I should choose one thing over another.
Current Spec: Enhancement
My Talents: Icy Veins
15: Forceful Winds lashing flames or forceful winds
25: Stormflurry stormflurry or hot hands
30: Spirit Wolf ??? on any of them
35: Elemental Assault any of them
40: Feral Lunge ??? on any of them
45: Crashing Storm Sundering
50: Ascendance Elemental Spirits or ? Ascendance
Legendary: Legacy of the Frost Witch
Icy-Veins is saying depending on what my focus is single target its Witch Doctor’s Wolf Bones, If I am Multi-Targeting Primal Lava Actuators and Burst AOE: Doom Winds.
So my confusion is on talent level 45 Why are we still using Sundering when Crashing storm to me would be better give the it gives the crash Lightning an extra damage burst or even going with Stormkeeper which pumps up our lightning bolt for two charges to 300%.
My Second confusion is with the legendary two of them the Witch Doctor’s Wolf Bones and Doom Winds yeah I can see those as possibilities yet why not Legacy of the Frost Witch that resets the cooldown to one of our specs biggest damage dealers stormspike plus gives an extra 30% damage to it.
So I guess my final question would be am I wrong to have my set up like this or should I actually switch to what is being recommended?
Sunder does the most damage, and can proc additional maelstrom procs and our weapon procs.
The synergy of Wolf Bones is too good with our tier sets which allow us to reduce the cooldown. As far as Frost Witch goes, we are already getting tons of procs from our 4pc set bonus, so the effectiveness of this legendary goes way down.
Play how you like, but it’s safe to assume if you want to do the best, you would follow the guides that have done extensive research into the builds.
So then am I safe to assume that anything that deals with lightning or increasing crash lightning should be disregarded and focus on increasing flameshock and lava lash? Is that the new idea?
Since I have yet to start raiding I didnt realize that was what our tier set was doing. So that makes sense.
Yeah sometimes I wonder about that because back in WoD it recommended something and I played differently and it just felt better to play then what the so called experts were saying. I only ask right now because I havent raided other than LFR and doing the Head of the Curve stuff since really WoD. So I am currently out of practice and wanted to make sure I was atleast on the right path of understanding what the so called experts were recommending. I would rather also not be cookie cutter with my character either.
So basically, there are a lot of builds currently. Sunder is usually the best for every situation due to it’s damage output, with ability to get additional msw procs.
Basically you pick a legendary and make your talents around that.
Primal Lava Actuators you go the flame shock/lava lash talents.
Witch Doctor Wolf Bones, you take the talents that improve your maelstrom generation/spending.
Doom Winds you go windfury/stormstrike talents.
The tier set makes every build want to go Elemental Spirits for the synergy.
But it’s really up to you on how you want to play. Some builds will have best at certain things, but no build is really best at everything.
Well I made some modifications to what I currently have and it has made a huge difference in how my character plays now.
I went with this I have one more change and that is to change my legendary however I am not sure if I would need to.
15: Lashing Flames
25 Hot Hands
30 Spirit Wolf
35: Elemental Assault (though I am thinking of trying the Fire Nova to see how that feels)
40 Feral lunge
45: Sundering
50 Ascendance
So far my survivability seems to be better and I am not dependent upon my elemental to assist me as much. Plus I change my rotation a bit as well. So yeah thanks for explaining those things.
