Taking the wrong lessons

Yet again it seems like Blizz has taken the wrong lessons from Classic in that you have to grind 2 or so levels to get to cap because they didn’t give enough xp during the main story line. Didn’t you learn this lesson in BC and actually have enough xp from main story quests in zones to get you to the appropriate level for the next zone and enough to get to cap. It seems you guys are taking the wrong lessons from Classic.

No expansion has gotten you to max level from doing only the main questline.
Go do side quests.
Your example TBC is even wrong, if you did ONLY the required questlines you would not hit even close to max, you had to do side quests (Which most were)

Do the Delve quests and you’ll jump through those last levels like they’re nothing.

It really wasn’t that bad.

In those days I’d argue very few quests were “required” since there was no linear campaign. Each zone definitely had a couple of long chains though, so I guess they were somewhat equivalent.

Doing side quests is not having to “grind” levels.

TBC really doesn’t have a “main story quest.” They didn’t really start that approach until Cata.

I just miss the days when pretty much every quest gave rep. Nowadays you finish the zone and you’ve barely started the renown grind, because they thought it was interesting to put ALL of it on world quests.

If you’re doing all the side quests you should be around renown 9

In vanilla getting to max level was an achievement as it took endless days of grinding elites to get there.

Your no changes classic doesn’t seem like it stayed with the original

I haven’t started on Midnight yet so I’ll take your word on that.

I just remember being disappointed in DF and TWW at how few quests gave rep. I say this as a player who was seeking Loremaster-style completion even back in original BC, before achievements were even a thing.

lol what?
Every quest gives rep.
When you complete all the zones you are a very good way into the renown grind.

Also in the past questing got you to honoured maybe, then you had to go do dailies and dungeon spam to get exalted.

So you just keep making stuff up…

Cata, mop and wod did

Nope.
Those as well required doing non-required quests.
It may be harder for you to understand, but pre-Legion there was not many “required” questlines. AKA main questlines.
Pre-Legion most expansions had only a couple required questlines, with most being optional content.
We didn’t even get a REAL “Main Campaign” until shadowlands, even legion and BFA just had multiple “Required” questlines in the zones.

Skipped all the side quests, eh?

Imagine using classic and BC as your examples when neither of them had a “campaign”, you just did every quest you could find and finished up leveling well before you were done everything there was to do (ESPECIALLY in vanilla).

BC didn’t have a distinct MSQ, it was all just quests.

There was no “main quest line” in Cata or MoP. Maybe WoD, I can’t remember it well enough.

Yep, MSQ was not a thing till Shadowlands.
Legion & BFA they had their first “MSQ-Lite” but it was super disjointed.
Before that we only had “Major Storylines” which were required to do for specific content, AKA Attunement questlines.

I know having to play a brand new expansion and experience leveling is so hard on you but I believe through perseverance you can get through this hard time in your life.

Jesus Christ if you don’t enjoy the game go play something else. This isn’t Fortnite or cod. This is an MMO. Leveling is part of that experience.

I did one run of the 4 pre-Voidstorm dungeons, I did the delve tour for everything besides Voidstorm, I cleared most of Sojourner of Eversong and a third of Harandar. It really is not that demanding to get there before hitting Voidstorm (actually I did the MT story run at 90) and Voidstorm as balanced is basically 88-90 MSQ anyway.

I don’t even play warmode. I’m not sure how people are this pressed by having to do a bit more than the relatively small amount of quests in MSQ

(fwiw I do gather a lot, I basically start skinning whenever I see a dead beast that hasn’t been harvested)

Then why are you commenting on midnight rep rewards in a thread about midnight questing?

I was somewhere between renown 8 and 10 in both those xpacs by the time I finished too. And it’s not like old xpacs gave more rep, wotlk left you at honored if you were lucky by the time you finished the zone. Then you had to daily grind for months to get exalted.

WoD falls under the main story lite category. They had main questlines in each zone and this was when blizzards storytelling for xpacs got way better. There were cinematics and everything, like Maraads death.
