So I’ve been in a guild for nearly 7 years, i have 5 level 70 characters there and I’m the only active guild member out of nearly 100!
The GM has not been online for 5 years! how to i get to take over the guild and become GM, i have submitted tickets to Blizz but i just get back automated messages and no help at all!
I have money and other goods tied to some tabs and to be honest all the effort I’ve put in i dont want to leave the guild, i would rather take over and start recruiting!
Is the option still there to take over? It used to be when GM was inactive for a certain time there was an option in guild settings? To take over leadership, not sure if that is even still a thing.
I believe if no GM or officer has logged in, it eventually becomes available to take; I’ve gotten three guilds this way. Someone must still be logging in.
Ahh, that part I didn’t know about. I just saw it once on an alt who was in a random guild, GM was away for a few years, I was the only player even active, and I saw the option to take over, I left instead, when you could finally and easily put your own toon in your own guild.

You still have to be no more than 3 level of guild rank below the GM or you will never get the option.
I am in a guild on an alt where the GM has been away for years (5 or more) everyone else in the guild is rank 9. The dethrone option has never come up.
I was an officer of my guild that died (officer being rank 2 (GM is rank 1)). So I was eligible to take over the guild. So I did. But anyone who is rank 2, 3 or 4 is eligible. Which is why some GM’s make sure no one can get beyond rank 5. This ensures that others will never be eligible to take over their guild no matter how long the GM is logged out for.
My guild is dead, rarely 2-3 people on at the same time, I see the guild leaders playing classic HC but almost never retail…and yet, I still can’t leave. Too much risk looking for another chill guild where I both like the name and the people with no drama…I’m fine where I am…just bored with no conversation or help some nights. Good luck OP!
