Taking launch day off?

There haven’t been any significant expansion launch issues for more than a decade. In any MMO, really.

I’m actually taking off Tuesday and Wednesday! I do get off at 11:00am on Monday. So I’ll be ready at 3:00pm when it launches!! Hopefully it goes smoothly.

That’s not my experience, but maybe it’s different on your realm.

Just took friday off while having thursday a free day. Servers open 30 min after I leave work and ill just use tuesday/wednesday to let people spread out in game so zones wont be over crowded. Learned my lesson after a few different mmo releases/expansions.

I’m almost PTO capped so I took next week off since I have Thurs and Fri off anyways. Then I get to take Christmas week off for another like 12 days.

Taking time off used to be pretty bad, WOD was terrible, but legion and BFA were fine. Blizzard has gotten better at smoothing them over and it’s also thanks to subscriber count likely being more on the decline than not launches will probably never see major issues like some people think will happen ever expansion launch.

Well…except classic. And whenever TBC launches again.

Toss me a link to the problems you experienced.

WoW Classic.

And no, I am not talking about when WoW first launched.

I am talking about the day they released “Vanilla” servers.

I also hear MoP had issues during launch, but I bought that expansion a few days after it launched so I am not sure what they were since they were (mostly) resolved when I started MoP content.

It’s always a risk to take a day off the day of launch, because of issues. I normally take whatever weekend is coming up off, and thankfully this year between Thanksgiving and having off Black Friday I should be golden. Another plus is because of covid I’m working from home, so I’ll get game time in during the day the rest of the week as well and then nights. Glitches and disconnects aside, should be a fun week, I hope.!

Being completely honest, I haven’t experienced any lag at all. Trust me I would have complained about it.

Launch days have been pretty smooth for a while now, still don’t know if i’d trust it enough to take a day for it.

I’m already off work by the time SL drops, so no.

I did take the next two days after off just because I need to burn PTO and a 6 day weekend sounds fabulous

Given history, it’s a bit of a coin flip as to whether it’s fine, if crowded, or whether it’s a mess.

Plan accordingly.

I didn’t do too bad in BfA launch. I was on for several hours.

I did get disconnected from the servers and when I tried to log back in got the message instance not found. 🤷🏼

I wasn’t happy with WoD launch. I had so many issues. I wasn’t on for MoP launch I had a queue from H— and when I’d finally get to ∅ I crashed. Each time.

Legion I had lots of lag in Dalaran and my class hall that I just waited till the following day to try, thinking most players would be out of that area.

I enjoyed Wrath, only because I was able to pick where I started. That seemed to spread folks out.

Shadowlands will have us all funnel through the same areas. Which will create bottlenecks and lag. Not to mention people being jerks on large mounts.

I plan on taking my time opening up my map fog and enjoying as others rush from one spot to the next.

I’m off for the next 10 days. I understand that need to burn pto.

I would take the first years off if I could but I’ll probably only take the first week off like this I won’t have to fight for mobs and I’ll be able to enjoy the game while trying to immerse myself, reading quest and so on.

Honestly, the only issues I’ve heard of over the past decade has been by design, or a lack thereof. The actual server infrastructure? Flawless. Inadvertently designed bottlenecks? They still crop up.

I would think a lot of people will be off on launch day due to COVID.

I won’t be off but I will be teleworking, which is almost the same thing :stuck_out_tongue:

that is a big ol sadge

Not me, launch isn’t until after the end of my work day and I got the next few days off for the holiday so it works for me.

I remember when before digital downloads you would go to gamestop at midnight local time wait in line for the discs then go home and install before you played. Wrath was the last time for that experience.
Were only about 20 people inline though so not bad. Ahh the memories.
