Taking damage during pet battles in the Maw

Hello,

While doing pet battles in the maw, the jailor’s tower kept striking, chaining and damaging my character. With the strikes coming every 20-30 seconds, I nearly died. My eye of the jailor was ~3/5.

Others have posted on the issue, but their title wasn’t descriptive so I’m reposting

The Maw Pet Battles

So for the first time ever, and I’ve been doing pet battles since they were introduced, I have died while pet battling. I was at 3/5 Eye of the Jailer, and entered a pet battle. About halfway through, I was bombarded (Tier 2 Eye of the Jailer) and it literally killed me. Not sure if this is intended, but there’s no reason to die during a pet battle, how are you even supposed to dodge the ability? I was under the impression that’s why we were supposed to be invincible DURING pet battles, becaus…

I had the same problem. I was tier two with the jailer and the tower struck me multiple times. I almost died and then when the pet battle was over, I was covered in two layers of chains and was attacked by walking baddies.
I can’t believe Blizzard didn’t realize this could happen.

This isn’t an issue any more after you complete the 9.1 introductory quest chain, since you banish the Eye from the open world and Eye effects no longer apply.

But FWIW, you’ve always been vulnerable to character combat while doing open-world wild pet battle, going all the way back to when pet combat was first introduced. It’s only trainer battles that are protected. And there weren’t any battleable wild pets in the Maw until 9.1, so clearly Blizzard thought about the hostile environment (since you couldn’t pet battle until the patch that allowed you to neutralize the worst environmental threat).
