Bellular released a clip today talking about Chomie. The video, I mean, it’s ok. Doesn’t really say much of anything, and is kind of a waste of five minutes of life but, you know, it’s fine. The comments though… Wow. The amount of transphobia and just raw dumbness is kind of astounding.
I’m not giving the transphobes any of my time here. They’re not worth it. But, I am going to address something that comes up over and over again in the comments, and that is… They keep saying this new info about Chromie is only coming out now to somehow cover up the overpriced BCC options.
Now, I would have thought that even the dumbest dumb-dumb would know that books take a long time to make, especially ones with work from multiple authors and multiple artists. And yet, these dingalings are saying that, like, a couple weeks ago, Blizz went “Oh no! We’re getting some bad reaction to our BCC prices. Quick publish a book and make Chromie basically trans in it. That’ll fix everything!”
Now, let’s just set aside the ridiculous concept that riling up the bigoted part of their customers will somehow make things better for the company, and instead focus on the ‘no, you can’t just publish a book like World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth in a week’ bit. The very fact that it’s been known about for, what, at least a year shows that it’s not some slapped together stunt to draw attention away from character transfers being $30 or whatever (and yeah, I know they’re free one way or the other and now just $15 for both) but when you take into account all the networking that has to be done, all the paperwork and contracts have to be worked out, stories have to be written, all the art has to be drawn, everything has to be edited, rewrites, corrections, finding a printer, more contracts and paperwork, shipping to the printer, proofs being made, shipped, checked, corrections made, more proofs, then finally printing of the books, customs paperwork, I don’t know where they’re printed but probably somewhere where they have to be shipped here on a boat, then the books need to be sent to the distributor to be divided up and sent to the retail locations like Amazon and book stores (I think there’s still a couple book stores, right?). Anyway, this process takes, at best, months. More likely, they’ve been at this for over a year.
I actually saw at least one doof in the comments say ‘they probably just changed some words in the Chromie story’. When? The book comes out in four days. Did they get into the shipping container (probably in the middle of the Pacific) and change them all by hand? The books are printed, guys. There are people with copies already. No, they didn’t change them, like, last week. Don’t be dumb.
Anyway. That’s really all I wanted to say. No, World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth is not something Blizzard made in a week to somehow magically make the BCC pricing controversy go away. If you think it is, I dunno, I honestly don’t know how you remember to breathe.
