Takes more than a week to publish a book. Honest

Bellular released a clip today talking about Chomie. The video, I mean, it’s ok. Doesn’t really say much of anything, and is kind of a waste of five minutes of life but, you know, it’s fine. The comments though… Wow. The amount of transphobia and just raw dumbness is kind of astounding.

I’m not giving the transphobes any of my time here. They’re not worth it. But, I am going to address something that comes up over and over again in the comments, and that is… They keep saying this new info about Chromie is only coming out now to somehow cover up the overpriced BCC options.

Now, I would have thought that even the dumbest dumb-dumb would know that books take a long time to make, especially ones with work from multiple authors and multiple artists. And yet, these dingalings are saying that, like, a couple weeks ago, Blizz went “Oh no! We’re getting some bad reaction to our BCC prices. Quick publish a book and make Chromie basically trans in it. That’ll fix everything!”

Now, let’s just set aside the ridiculous concept that riling up the bigoted part of their customers will somehow make things better for the company, and instead focus on the ‘no, you can’t just publish a book like World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth in a week’ bit. The very fact that it’s been known about for, what, at least a year shows that it’s not some slapped together stunt to draw attention away from character transfers being $30 or whatever (and yeah, I know they’re free one way or the other and now just $15 for both) but when you take into account all the networking that has to be done, all the paperwork and contracts have to be worked out, stories have to be written, all the art has to be drawn, everything has to be edited, rewrites, corrections, finding a printer, more contracts and paperwork, shipping to the printer, proofs being made, shipped, checked, corrections made, more proofs, then finally printing of the books, customs paperwork, I don’t know where they’re printed but probably somewhere where they have to be shipped here on a boat, then the books need to be sent to the distributor to be divided up and sent to the retail locations like Amazon and book stores (I think there’s still a couple book stores, right?). Anyway, this process takes, at best, months. More likely, they’ve been at this for over a year.

I actually saw at least one doof in the comments say ‘they probably just changed some words in the Chromie story’. When? The book comes out in four days. Did they get into the shipping container (probably in the middle of the Pacific) and change them all by hand? The books are printed, guys. There are people with copies already. No, they didn’t change them, like, last week. Don’t be dumb.

Anyway. That’s really all I wanted to say. No, World of Warcraft: Folk & Fairy Tales of Azeroth is not something Blizzard made in a week to somehow magically make the BCC pricing controversy go away. If you think it is, I dunno, I honestly don’t know how you remember to breathe.

Yeah some people here go STRAIGHT to conspiracies whenever Blizzard does anything.

It’s a bit ridiculous, tbh.

It’s like QAnon, but for WoW.

I still never understand why people get so crazy about such trivial information. It literally changes nothing about the game…or even in the game for that matter. It’s just information about a fictional character in a book.

The Chromie thing is absolutely a J.K. Rowling pandering maneuver. She is still an awesome character though. Nothing to get worked up about, though. More of a shake your head and say “Blizzard… oh you!” with a chuckle.

I personally just don’t get why people make such a big deal out of it. It doesn’t change anything except maybe maybe some people feel like trans people are represented in the game a tiny bit more. It doesn’t really have any negative consequences.

Also really don’t care if it’s a retcon, cause, to be perfectly honest, I never even thought about Chromie, let alone Chromie’s gender identity, before people started posting about this.

Exactly!

The only reason I even know Chromie is a dragon is the Culling of Strat dungeon.

Yep. It absolutely hurts no one for Chromie to be trans. It truly is only a positive. Doesn’t affect her character one iota, I guess unless you were writing a sick rule 34 fanfic or something.

But still. What’s it matter? If it helps people to have a character they can identify with, then by all means.

Fixed for giggles because you are not wrong.

I didn’t read the text wall but points because Howloween is a cool name.

It’s more cynical than that.

Acitivision-Blizzard are a giant corporation with a crapton of marketing data. All Chromie being trans means is that the amount of money they generate of merch sales (including this book) will increase by them being pro-LGBTQ than they’d lose by being neutral on the subject (or worse, actively against it).

Activision-Blizzard are capitalists to the core, which in this current day and age means they’re rainbow capitalists. I’ve got a lot of criticisms of JK, but cynicism isn’t one of them.

The only way I could possibly ever be mad about a gender or sexual orientation reveal or retcon would be if the character whose gender or sexual orientation is getting revealed had previously been described to be a different gender/have a different sexual orientation in extreme detail without there ever having been any signs of them possibly being a different gender than it seems or possibly having a different sexual orientation.

Like if a character had been involved in a very intense and meaningful longterm relationship with a man and then suddenly ten years later they would be like “but the character was only ever truly interested in women”. Making them bi or pansexual would be a different thing but if they changed a homosexual or heterosexual character’s sexual orientation around completely after they were in a really invested relationship with someone of the gender they now supposedly were never interested in. That’s like the only way it might possibly make me go “:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Ppl complain about a lore character roleplaying as a woman when they do the same thing with their female characters lmao

srsly guys just move on

What happened after the Diablo Immortal stock bombing? Blizzard announced officially in Twitter (to then be catch by most media) that soldier 76 is gay!!!
What a coincidence
Totally not a PR defense move

Now a lot of controversy surges about TBC deluxe stuff and losing 3 million active customers from last earning quarter
Oh, Chromie is trans now (we knew this for a long time but now they are making it more clear so media talk about it and help their stock)

When media talk positively about a company bots automatically invest in those stocks and people follow that.
Is not a “conspiracy”, is how the market works.
Trump did this a lot promoting companies and making them boom
Musk also manipulated a lot stock from several places (and killing his own stocks several times for bad comments ON TWITTER, losing billions each time, or making billions easily…)

There was no transphobia.
Its like pandering to poor people in Black communities just to increase your PR but actually doing nothing for them. Is disgusting.
Is like when Biden came here to Florida and just played “Despacito” to the Latino community (which is a very conservative community that dislikes the meaning of that song generally to begin with so… lol) < that’s actually racism imo.
Using to your advantage the disadvantaged position of others should be considered racist, critiquing that behavior is not “racist-transphobic”

I don’t know. I mean, just saying it, does make me curious on what you consider transphobic and was hoping you give examples… Not giving any examples of what you think is transphobic is… ehhhhhhhhhh…

Maybe instead of instantly labeling them as transphobic, you ask them why do they think of that?.. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I mean i’m not really even fond of the reason myself, but i’m not going to call them transphobic because of that.

I do agree that it doesn’t take a week to make. If anything, i think it would be more correct to say that they were already planning this way before we knew chromie is established to be trans.

My post was reported, huh? LOL My post is literally ‘It takes a long time to make a book’ with a tiny dash of ‘Transphobia bad’ but you be you, you very sensitive little scamps.

Unless… could it be that someone was actually offended by “dumb-dumb” or “dingaling” or “doof”? If so, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have used such harsh language.

It was not me, other people do because… they are tired of these topics on the forums.

OP makes a post calling out the WoWanon crowd for pushing conspiracy theories and this guy jumps right in with a conspiracy. Way to read the room champ.

It irritates me, but I’m not worked up by it. Annoyed and not chuckling, just like a lot of retcons in the game, because retcons annoy me. It doesn’t mean I’m up in arms. Just… disappointed in the writing choices/decisions.

No, i would imagine they reported you because you just labeled people without any sort of evidence or cite some examples to back it up on what you think is transphobic. (And i’m not asking for the definition, i’m asking for your examples)

Plus your overall point of the thread is simply “It takes more then a week to publish a book” which even yourself said that everybody knows this.

I mean who pays attention to this stuff? I don’t care what the characters are I just get the quest or whatever and go on my way.
