Whatever expectations you have for story in SL, remove them. We started BFA fighting each other for azerite and ended with killing an old god and Sylvannas tearing a hole in the sky to the Shadowlands.
I promise you they make this stuff up as they go.
You want cool stuff - Varian meeting Anduin, Arthas seeing Jaina…never going to happen.
KT x3, Uther with WINGS!, some random new bad guy the Jailer.
The lore and story of this game are preposterous. You’re a freaking angel now LOL what???
I thought space ships and laser beams were bad in Legion. At least the story was somewhat reminiscent of old Warcraft.
SL is just a derailed train. It’s a plane being built in the air.
Also get rid of your expectations for any deviations from the current hamster wheel. It’ll be the same.

acting like the over all story has ever been good

Thanks for the heads up. I figured as much since the lore has gone out the window in this past expansion.

You’re so cool. How do I be like you?

To be perfectly fair, plenty of people called it with the name “Battle for Azeroth,” in that it meant both “battle over it” and “battle to protect it” the day it was announced. We pretty much wound up with what was expected.

So, like vanilla…
AQ40?
You don’t remember when undead just appeared outside Ironforge because Naxx is here… for… reasons…
This.

Think they ever will address the sword in the planet or somehow make Azerite powerless?
If they somehow already did it, I missed it.

Idk, everything about it sounds pretty cool so far. Interesting thematically. The story doesn’t have to be a masterpiece—can already see that I’ll enjoy the questing experience from visuals alone. Ya, there’ll be dailies, all the same stuff…though no artifact power. Not ready to lower expectations yet.

If you feel that way then go ahead… donno why you feel the need to feel that important as to have others follow in your footsteps.
It’s a game. Ofcourse this isn’t and never was going to be some elaborate well thoughtout 20 years in advance story.

Maybe. Maybe not. Pretty sure players asked the same about Bolvar suddenly becoming the LK.
Thankfully I focus on the gameplay not the story so I don’t have any expectations to flush.

Pretty sure that lore interview with Danuser the other day (Wowhead) had a reply about the sword. Not much, but that it has a part to play soon.

I’m excited about the story regardless. And WoW lore has been this way for a long time. I’ve learned not to expect anything when it comes to good storytelling.

Well you could stop whining so much if you wanted to be cool…

I’m not expecting Pre-EA Bioware story here. The plot is really just a reason (excuse) to put us into new and exciting locales so we can kill ever more interesting creatures.
Dang. Now I wants me some Jade Empire 2

Mmm… I thought they did a pretty good job with WotLK and MoP. They managed to have a pretty consistent story throughout both xpacs. Minor deviations with the Argent Tournament and the WPvP/E areas in Krasarang Wilds. But otherwise, both were pretty good.
Jade Forest is probably still the best example of storytelling I’ve seen from Blizz. They did a really good job of introducing you to the Pandaren and their culture. Vot4W was also good with the short adventures with various characters. Both of those were one of the few times you really got to know individual characters in the world… without having to wait an xpac or two for the next quest with them.
But, yeah, in general the story has always just been an excuse to play the game. That was true all the way back to WC1.

If I wanted a story that I felt would really engage me I’d play FFXIV.

My expectations are low just not story wise for SL but gameplay as well. Blizzard just reminds me of a drug addict who says “I’m gonna change” but you know it’s not gonna happen.
I want to go in SL believing it’s a good expansion but you know what, these last 3 expansions (yes inc Legion) have taught me Blizzard doesn’t give **.
:edit:
Oh Btw further to prove my point is the fact they made “Angel” Uther…which they already stated the “light” paladins worshiped was eventually the “Naaru” which at least from what we know aren’t in SL. I swear to god Blizzard can’t even keep track of their own GD lore and story anymore.

The only good stories are the books written as in between things before and after expansions and all the other books written about this game.
In-game lore and stories will always be a joke, though.
