Tailoring spec advice

Hello guys, I’m lvling my alt’s tailoring but then I have to chose spec for tailoring. I am trying to research and reading guides but some of what I read is made by players reading guides and are now stuck >.< I’m confused.

My alt is even more casual than my main and I don’t have any particular goals with it. Could anyone give me a hand what to pick?

Most complaints about being locked or stuck in tailoring are due to a poor understanding of the system and poorly written guides. Once you get around 60 skill your trainer-learned crafts go grey, and at this point most think that the only way to progress is to craft epic gear for skill-ups. People who haven’t chosen garmentcrafting or draconic needlework as one of their first two specs can’t craft epic gear, so they think they’re stuck since they can’t get to 75 skill for their third spec.

But this is incorrect for two reasons. First, epic gear is a very poor way to earn more skill. Sparks of ingenuity are in short supply, and most of that supply is going to be spent on quality 5 crafts, so people working on leveling their skills aren’t going to be able to meet that demand. Second, the best ways to gain skills are from either fishing hats or spellthreads, which aren’t tied to knowledge at all.

Fishing hats require a bit of a rep grind, as it’s locked behind Dragonscale Expedition renown 15, but it is by far the cheapest option. For spellthreads you have either Frozen Spellthread from Cobalt Assembly rep, which is an easy if tedious grind in a group, or Temporal Spellthread which is a world drop and can be bought on the AH. You don’t necessarily need to be specced into draconic needlework for crafting spellthreads, as buying quality 1 or 2 azureweave or chronocloth on the AH is going to be cheaper than buying the raw mats and making the cloth yourself.

So in what order is it less inconvenient to unlock the specs?

That depends entirely on what you want to specialize in.

Tailoring Mastery: General skill, inspiration, and resourcefulness. Cloth collection is not useful unless you’re planning on farming elemental cloth scraps for unraveling. Overall makes for a good second pick.

Garmentcrafting: Generic epic gear and profession gear.

Draconic Needlework: Embellished gear, spellthreads, bags, and cooldown cloth bolts. If you plan on focusing on any of these then pick this first to start collecting cooldown charges.

Textiles: Bolts, thread, spellthread, and miscellaneous stuff. Bolts and thread are useful, but not really worth prioritizing over other skill points if you’re focusing on gear. Embroidery is near worthless as bags and toys don’t have quality, and polishing cloths and banners have low demand.

If I had to start fresh with tailoring, I’d go for either garmentcrafting or draconic needleworking first and tailoring mastery second.
