Tailoring + enchanting or Engineering?

started a warlock that i plan to main. i have No lvl 60’s yet.

i plan to Mainly PvE but do Some PvP. not going to go hardcore into PvP though. as far as dps goes i used to be into min maxing but idc as long as we get the job done im fine.

Wondering which would be the better option for me? Engineering idc much for i mean im sure its a good dps boost in PvE and great for PvP but then id be taking mining. just wanted peopled 2c about this. i mainly focus on raiding but im on a pvp server and do plan to pvp wpvp and bg’s. like i said just not at a hardcore level. raiding wise my guild isn’t ready yet its a leveling guild and they dont seem to care about comps much we will eventually raid and down content otherwise.

If you aren’t going to pvp, then tailoring so you can get set bonus for bloodvine. But that’s the only real use for tailoring. Enchanting is nice for DE. Engineering is for pvp.

If you do want to pvp, I say Enchanting/Engineering. The PVE boost is whatever. All pve content is trivial anyway.

From experience, Enchanting is a useful skill but it takes a ton of effort to get the high end patterns that are going to make good gold. Now that I have almost all of them I’m glad I’m an enchanter, but it took forever

Engineering is bis for both pve and pvp.

For your second prof, tailoring until you replace bloodvine then drop it for blacksmithing.

Engineering and Enchanting would be the best options if you’re able to level some alts. Tailoring instead of Enchanting if you want the Bloodvine set benefit. Reason being basically every other profession you can use to support your main. You need Engineering to use Engineering things and you can’t enchant your main with an alt unless that alt is on a separate account.

However, I’d consider starting out with better money makers first until you’re able to level some alts. Dropping a profession later to re-level it isn’t really all that much of an undertaking. In the long run it can save you a ton of gold.

I started out with mining/herbalism on this fella. Swapped mining out to get enchanting to make the Smoking Heart of The Mountain then dropped Enchanting for Gnomish Engineering. I have tailoring, alchemy, enchanting and goblin engineering across a few alts.

Let’s assume you’re in a wonderful guild willing to carry you through AQ40. If you have that setup you can go enchanting engineering.

However if you want to pull your own weight as best as possible then you’d go tailoring engineering.

Just depends on circumstance.

yea but what if i want to do SOME… PvP but lets say my main focus wont be pvping. like i enjoy it here and there but im not going to go out of my way to pvp/rank up heavily.

would engineering still be worth it in that case or not really? im assuming no?

Depends. Even as a casual pvper the trinkets are fun. So maybe. It depends on how much you enjoy messing with them, or getting a teleport.

I’d say enchanting takes one slot for sure because you get much more money out of sharding 51+ gear than vendoring usually. That gets you a bit more of an income stream.

Then its tailoring vs Engineering. Which basically comes down to, do you want a pvp bonus for the rest or classic, or a pve bonus until you get better gear. Different folks answer that question differently. I don’t give two links for pve strength so Engineering is my choice.

Personally, I would go with Tailoring + Enchanting, especially if you are mostly PvE. Those will get you a long way through your leveling, and tailoring can feed into Enchanting if you disenchant the gear you make. Plus, mid-level enchanting mats are cheap on the AH. And if you go Undead, then the Tirisfal-Silverpine-Hillsbrad circuit will get you up to almost 30 in zones where humanoid or undead mobs are in the majority, feeding Tailoring. Grind on the Gnolls in Hillsbrad to 30, and then Arathi is right there, with plenty of humanoid mobs, and Hinterlands, as well. WPL and EPL finish off the leveling journey, full of undead to get tailoring mats from.

Engineering, on the other hand, would be best if you took Mining to go with it, since you’re going to be buying a LOT of materials otherwise.

Recently I have found Engineering is good for making gold at low levels (getting your first couple hundred gold at 20-30). I took mining just to keep the Engineering materials cost down (in the AH, bars are sometimes much higher than ore).

I have several 35-40 characters (on another server) using the Tai and Alc cooldowns to make gold slowly and steadily (10g a day on each character, for 1 min work).

So I have no useful input about 40-60.

Interesting thread. Nice reading. I might try some of these helpful suggestions.

Engineering is for pvp or hardcore raiding. otherwise tailor/enchant to make mooncloth every 4 days. enchanting doesn’t make money, its expensive to level. Just make wizard/mana oils as you need them though.

I’d skip enchanting, its expensive, and makes no money. Most people who raise enchanting never make the gold back that they spent raising it to 300.

Tailoring and Engi
sappers are always nice to have on Nef and soon Viscidus too
its more or less required for PvP as well
