Tabards are Dumb

Tabards can look pretty cool on classes that don’t wear robes. I main lock, so tabards almost always look terrible on me because I usually wear a robe tmog.
Also, dwarf beards and tabards don’t go well together.

Why is the OP flagged…?

Also i agree with him/her. Tabards ~used~ to be cool back in the day because they were special. But nowadays they’re simply ugly and generally meaningless. Arm band sounds pretty cool imo.

Then don’t wear one.

I disagree. When I think of a tabard, I think of the Knights Templar or some cool crusader with metal armor and the tabard is showing their colors/symbolism. Tabards don’t match an outfit, they are the thing that sticks out. The armor/clothing is just that.

when they were useful for grinding faction rep, they at least had a real purpose.

but I feel like the Loam tabard only supports that proposition that tabards are dumb.

lol.
one more for the “flag abuse needs to be severely punished” files lol

Keep my tabard hidden usually. Only ones I ever really wore were the rep ones.

Two examples of tabards not being dumb:

  1. Argent Dawn/Argent Crusader tabard on my Paladin with the “Crusader” title. The colors allow for a lot of creative transmogging with Paladin gear. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

  2. The Honorbound/whatever the Horde BFA tabard is called - rounds out countless transmogs for my Orcs.

I use tabard & shirt combos often to make non-robed versions of robed sets when there’s no non-robe option or something that fits perfectly as an alternative. For example:

This is the tier 4 Mage Aldor set sans the robe and using a tabard/shirt/chest combo to make a non-robed version. I’d absolutely be thrilled if Blizzard gave us a “hide skirt” option for robes though. But until such an option is added, tabards help me make non-robed versions of sets.

Here’s another great use of tabards:

That’s a nice look. I guess the heart of my grief is from guild tabards. They just don’t give us great options to make them look cool. So if anyone has an awesome example of guild tabard making their transmog work, I’d like to see it.

Edit: Oh those are guild tabards…that looks nice. Maybe I just need to explore the options more.

Only expansion that did Tabards right was WOTLK because you could wear them to rep grind.

Well, there’s that guild cloak with the teleport to SW/Org.

It always displays the guild colors/style of the guild tabard.

You can use it to transmog over whatever cloak you’re wearing with your guild colors.

For your guild you can get a cape that doubles as a main city teleport. As well a mount that has you carry your guild pennant on.

Disagree. This tabard works perfectly with my mog.

I hate flags. Like the mounts with flags on them… Cant stand them. I also dont like the flag transmogs for you back. Looks stupid. Dont want.

Tabards have however seemed to get less used. I have my collection of them since Vanilla. But at one time they helped cover ugly armor sets. But the better the sets, the less I care about them. Doesnt mean I want them gone. But would like to see improved tabard designs and even sashes would be nice.

I do agree that the guild tabard system is LONG overdue for an update. It’s still the original system we had from vanilla with nothing new added, no upressed textures, etc.

Tabards are key to hiding parts of a chest transmog that would otherwise ruin the overall look you’re going for.

The one my character is wearing now, is a prime example and I have other sets that use the same feature.

Only time I ever wore them lol. I miss being able to grind rep in dungeons.

Simce they let you hide chest pieices ive found alot of use in tabards for outfits that dont have a good matching top. They come in a lot of colors and patterns so between them and shirts top mogs arent a problem.

They also set under a lot of 3d elements on new chest peices, so if one has a 3d accent color you like but the rest of it doesnt match your mog you can slap a tabard on to hide it and keep your color scheme.

They need to get rid of the belt gap on old ones though, the shadowlands ones that were 1 flat continuous piece look way better since you dont need a belt with them.
