Tab Targetting For Party

Hello Everyone!
I played off and on since WotLK and what really brought me back this expansion was the bringing back of the talent tree and controller support. I had been playing FFXIV for a bit and LOVE the way their controller is integrated into the game. And one thing that this game really needs is tab targetting for party members. I was playing Astrologian on FFXIV which is a healer class and I really would like to play my healer for dungeons on here but there really isn’t a consistent way to do so. Tab Ally is messy because it will only target those in front of you and that are in LoS of your character (not your view) and it is pseudo-random on who ends up being selected. In FFXIV, simply press the d-pad a few times and you will always be on the party member that you are trying to target regardless if they are in front of you or behind you, or LoS. And it makes healing very doable and consistent.

So please add Tab Targeting for Party. It is such a simple thing, yet makes controller support that much better, while allowing access to more content on a controller.

P.S. I don’t know why the post is from a character I don’t even play. So I changed my display character… just so you don’t think it’s a level 30 making that post.

Target Nearest Enemy - Default Tab

Target Nearest Friend - Default CTRL-Tab

Also the F2-5 target your specific party members.

Most healers use some kind of party frame addon or the default raid frames and mouseover macros. It’s a lot faster. A lot.

I don’t know what kind of controller that you are using, but mine doesn’t have and F2 to F5 buttons. Just the standard A, B, X, Y, D-Pad and bumpers… but Thank you for your contribution.

I’m sure that it is a lot faster, A lot. But the point of this post is to play on controller not Keyboard and Mouse. I already play for 2’s Arena and other parts of the game. I would like to be able to heal dungeons on controller as well. But you are right, mouse and keyboard is a lot faster, just like beating Dark Souls is a lot faster to beat on controller than it is on the Rock Star Drums, but hey, some people enjoy playing the game in their own way, and if a controller is supported, it shouldn’t be handicapped.

I’m all for people playing the way they want to. I don’t know how feasible it would be to heal dungeons on a controller, especially higher keys (if that’s your goal). I certainly wouldn’t want to try it, but that’s me.

I think he’s saying you can hotkey that to your DPad, in the Keybindings of Settings. Just find it there and press the new input you want for it.

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:alt,@player] [@mouseover,help,nodead] power word: shield; [@mouseover,harm,nodead] [harm] Smite; power word: shield

This is an example of my hover macros I use for my healers, every helpful spell is paired with a harmful spell, if you hover mouse over an enemy it’ll smite them, over an ally it’ll Shield them.

I dunno how well it’d work with a controller scrolling around the screen but help/harm macros using that template are really awesome if you don’t want a core addon that does the fancy stuff

The problem with mouse over macros is that you don’t really have a mouse while in controller mode. Plus it kind of defeats the purpose of using the controller. I guess my issue is that the controller support is almost fully utilized but just falls short in a few key areas. And party tab targeting is one of those areas, the other being the interact button (it’s janky but I get what they were trying to do).

That actually is not a bad idea. I use my d-pad up and down for targeting enemies, and ideally wanted to use left and right for tab targeting party members. And when I do 2s Arena, I have d-pad up target arena1, d-pad down arena2, d-pad left-self, d-pad right for party1. The party members assigned to a d-pad direction isn’t a bad idea. I would just have to find a new way to tab through enemies.

You can still kinda do that just use a button for your shift/alt/Ctrl modifier , you can leave all that as is and have say L1 +DPad for party targeting

Unless you already use those for something else

Who tab targets parties anymore? Just use clique. Easiest addon in the west

To be honest, the pace of gameplay in WoW is way higher than in FFXIV - not just the GCD, though I think that’s the clearest example.

I really can’t imagine being able to navigate the party menu efficiently or effectively with a controller.

You don’t need it, OP. As someone who plays with a controller in both games, ConsolePort is better–if not a steeper learning curve.

For example, in FFXIV you have hard-coded keybinds that you can’t reassign; CP lets you redo almost any bind.

I am STILL salty about where SE assigned the map and ground-targeting reticle; can’t tell you how many times that I’ve died to activating those while in combat.

FFXIV used to have a leg up on WoW in the controller department. This isn’t the case any longer.

I was telling a guildmate it was actually kind of infuriating now that wow with Consoleport is a better experience than either FFXIV or ESO with controller.

Difference in it being developed independently, though. The developer is a champ.

Tab targeting could use a lot of work. Recall it working a lot better in BfA.

First thing I would add is a “Always target closest” command. The cycle through closest can sometimes be very cumbersome.

Uhh why are you playing with a controller? Ita bit good for this game an isnt even support half way. Nouse an Keyboard or go play FF.

No its not straight up ita not worth a dang.

I don’t use any addons other than Grid, DBM, and Decursive. I see people talk about Weak Auras a lot but I’ve no idea what that is.

As a healer, I don’t think I’d enjoy using a controller. It’s nice to be able to see my HoTs on the Grid frames, so I know when to renew them….but tabbing through that would be tough! Factoring in placing my Efflorescence with a controller?

Might be a bit challenging as a healer! Just saying :open_mouth:
