Tab Targeting

Curious why Tab Targeting is even part of the game if it does exactly what you do not want it to do?
Example mob in front of you is casting something import to kick and you tab target to a mob not even in combat or in range. Even had it target things behind me. Personally, would rather not have to click with my mouse. Why is RNG implemented into a basic game function? The coding to fix that would not be hard.

I feel like it’s gotten worse over the years. Working on breaking the tab habit but it’s shocking how bad it is in this game.

First thing you have to do in any game is rebind Tab to an ability key. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

There was one patch in Cata where they did an overhaul and it was PERFECT! Then a week later they did a hotfix and it was just ok. Now I have noticed its complete crap. I miss interrupts all the time.

This is just one of those aspects of the game that they keep messing up, same with the camera position, i find it infuriating how easily and often my camera gets caught up in trees, banners and pretty much anything else that’s above+behind me. It’s almost like Blizzard deliberately makes some things bad to use just so we’ll stop using them lol

The camera deal is not fun in my opinion either. Never fails when something important is happening they have coded the camera to do a thing. Just random nonsense that they have implemented with a small test group saying, “This will make things tougher.” Then they never play the game after that to see for themselves on live servers.

It used to work just fine but they did doublespeak and tried to make it sound like it was a good change but it was just one of those artificial changes to increase difficulty without having to design anything.

Kind of like horrible terrain, does nothing but frustrate the player and adds artificial difficulty.

I bound tab targetting to the scroll wheel back in MoP and its worked fine ever since. If it targets the wrong thing, keep scrolling, if you go too far, scroll up (scroll up is bound to previous target). Works great!

For melee it’s fine because if they don’t actively have a target, the game will automatically target the closest thing to them/in front of them

For ranged its…eh. It really does get worse every expansion.

HOWEVER, they did add action targeting this expansion, which (when enabled) soft targets anything within range that is directly in front if your camera. Then you can lock it in with tab. I’ve found this feature extremely useful on my evoker. You don’t have to fumble to find another target after yours dies, it just does so automatically.

If that doesn’t do it for you, you can have similar functionality by holding in the tab key, and it will also soft target whatever you’re looking at until you let go.
