Tab Targeting in War Within

Continuing the discussion from Not a fan of how tab targetting works:

I have always used tab targeting, but yesterday it just quit. I thought it was my keyboard and switched that. Nope. It doesn’t work. Now I’m seeing its an old issue with Blizzard. Will there be any fix to this? After 20 years I’m sort of set on this.

I have always used tab targeting. I like it because I can cycle through quickly when the targets are constantly moving,

So I’m not losing my mind! There is something messed up with it!

I feel like half the time I tab target, nothing happens. And then sometimes, I suddenly just don’t have a target at all after I tab target, get the target, then it just… drops.

Target dropping is a huge problem in pvp as well

Action targeting isn’t working correctly.

I swear, every time I use an empower spell, I suddenly drop target for no reason. It’s driving me crazy. Especially in dungeons.

Part of the beginning of the removal of tab targetting as indicated would happen.

Who indicated where that tab targeting was being deleted or dropping targets was somehow intended?

It works for me in the sense that targets change. However, since DF I’ve noticed it doesn’t select the closest target and seems fairly random regarding which target it chooses. Not ideal but still better than trying to click target when things get heated.

I just wish when I switched targets it would target the mob closest to me instead of the one half a mile away.

This used to be a problem back in Legion, as well. I’d tab to the next target and it would target something five states away behind a wall.

I’ve had lots of problems with this. Did they change something?

More like broke something. Again. :expressionless:

Tab targeting in WoW has been janky long as I can remember. So much so, that I’m too conditioned to even have noticed this issue, if it has occurred.

That might be why I always miss those stupid barrel bombs, that spawn from that stupid Cindermead trinket.

Not to derail, but gdammit if that isn’t the most idiotic item I’ve ever seen.

Anywho, SWTOR is the only MMO I’ve played that has tab targeting even close to not annoying.

Blizzard should try to copy that. On top of fixing this.

I’m using that trinket right now. The concept seems cool, but the targeting rarely works and most of the time the barrels either show up too late to be useful, or they are not near enough to mobs by the time you see them to be of use.

Have you tried setting the interact with target key?

Imgur

Just walk up to something, even if you have something else targeted and press that key.

So I… stop casting, in order to walk into a group of mobs to hit the barrel?

Nah, fam. I’ll just stick with Suncaller, til I get something less of a PITA. Ironic, I know!

I feel you on this one. I know for a fact it’s dropping targets randomly. Multiple times now I’ve had a target lined up, go to fire off a spell and get a “you have no target” message.

The targeting when it does work is just wonky as hell too. I can have a group of 3 mobs in front of me and actively in combat with me, but the tab target will pick Background Mook #17 off in the distance.

They need to fix this.

exactly, please blizz, for god’s sake

This is #1 on my qol improvements list.

Standing back as ranged it is impossible to manually pick the target you want in a pack of mobs. A good tab target algorithm is kind of essential.

I’m tired of hitting tab and having it jump behind me. Worse, rather than target the pack close to me where I just killed something, jump to the next pack full of identical mobs behind it. I can’t tell it happened until I pull that whole pack.

Please please finally fix tab targeting
